Thank you to the Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources, the Navajo Nation Fair Office and all the sponsors for hosting a spectacular pro rodeo during the 78th Navajo Nation Fair.

Speaker Crystalyne Curley addressed rodeo attendees during the Friday and Saturday evening performances. During Friday evening’s performance, Speaker Curley was joined by Resources and Development Committee Chairwoman Brenda Jesus and Health, Education, and Human Services Committee Chairman Vince R. James for a check presentation of $750,000 in dividends from the Diné Development Corporation (DDC).

The 25th Navajo Nation Council extends its gratitude to DDC for the dividend presentation and its continued investment in the Navajo Nation.

On Friday, members of the Naabik'íyáti’ Gaming Subcommittee met with Indian Gaming Association Chairman David Z. Bean to discuss tribal gaming priorities.

Speaker Crystalyne Curley, Gaming Subcommittee Chairwoman Eugenia Charles Newton and Council Delegate Norman Begay honored Chairman Bean with a gift in recognition of his leadership and partnership.

The 25th Navajo Nation Council and the Naabik'íyáti’ Gaming Subcommittee look forward to continued collaboration in advancing tribal gaming and protecting tribal sovereignty.

25th Navajo Nation Council celebrates 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair parade with community members

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Saturday, the 25th Navajo Nation Council, Office of the Speaker, and Navajo Nation Youth Advisory Council joined families and community members for the 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair parade, greeting attendees and distributing candy, bananas, cold water, and other items along the parade route.

“The Navajo Nation Fair parade is a special time for our families and communities to come together, celebrate and enjoy this tradition,” Council Delegate Vince R. James said. “As we enjoy the parade with our children, elders and loved ones, we also want everyone to be mindful of their surroundings and look out for one another. The safety of our families, parade participants, and visitors is important, and we want everyone to have a safe and memorable experience.”

Council Delegates James, Amber Kanazbah Crotty, Germaine Simonson, Helena Nez Begay, Norman M. Begay, Eugenia Charles-Newton, Shawna Ann Claw, Titus Nez, Arbin Mitchell, Dr. Andy Nez and Curtis Yanito walked the parade route alongside members of the Navajo Nation Youth Advisory Council, including Chair Aryiah James, Daelyn Benally, Makyle Dan and Kendri Kinlacheeny. Special guests representing White Mountain Apache royalty also joined the group.

Throughout the parade, council delegates and Youth Advisory Council members greeted attendees, shook hands, danced with children, and distributed refreshments to families lining the route. Their participation gave them a chance to thank community members for supporting the Navajo Nation Fair and encourage families to safely enjoy the remaining fair activities.

Shawn Martinez, senior director of live presentation for the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Valley Suns, provided music along the parade route and engaged with attendees. T-shirts were also distributed to enthusiastic Suns and Mercury fans along the route, adding to the celebration and entertainment.

“The Navajo Nation Fair brings thousands of our people together to celebrate our culture, communities and families, and we encourage everyone to continue enjoying all the activities the fair has to offer,” Delegate Dr. Nez said. “With many families spending long hours outdoors and walking between events, please remember to drink plenty of water, take breaks when needed, and watch out for our children and elders. We want everyone to enjoy the festivities and return home safely.”

The 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair features a variety of community, cultural, and entertainment activities that bring together Navajo families, visitors, and neighboring communities. The annual parade remains one of the fair’s signature events, giving communities, leaders, organizations, youth, and guests a chance to celebrate together in Window Rock.

25th Navajo Nation Council Remembers 9/11 and Honors First Responders

Today marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks, a tragedy that forever changed our nation and the world.

On this solemn anniversary, the 25th Navajo Nation Council remembers the lives lost and honors the first responders who courageously answered the call to help others, including the 343 New York City firefighters and 23 New York City police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Their courage, selflessness, and commitment to protecting life remain an enduring example of service and sacrifice.

“On behalf of the 25th Navajo Nation Council, we offer our prayers to the families who continue to grieve the loss of their loved ones and to all those whose lives were forever changed on September 11. As we remember the heroes who gave their lives to save others, we pray that our country never again experiences a tragedy of this magnitude,” said Speaker Crystalyne Curley.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, honor the heroes who responded, and stand with the families who carry their memory forward.

We will never forget.

25th Navajo Nation Council celebrates Elder Fest at 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — On Thursday, the 25th Navajo Nation Council, Office of the Speaker, and Navajo Nation Youth Advisory Council (NNYAC) joined elders, families, and community members to celebrate Elder Fest during the 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair. The celebration brought generations together through cultural performances, games, refreshments, and activities honoring Diné elders and their important role in Diné families and communities.

“Our elders are our teachers and mentors. They carry the knowledge, teachings and life experiences that guide us as Navajo people,” Speaker Crystalyne Curley said. “It is important that we spend time with them, listen to their stories and teachings, and make sure they know how much we value them. Being involved in the lives of our elders strengthens our families and helps ensure their knowledge and teachings continue with our younger generations.”

Elder Fest is a special part of the Navajo Nation Fair that recognizes and celebrates elders while giving them opportunities to enjoy cultural and recreational activities with their families and communities. This year’s festivities included cultural dances by Aztec performers, along with games and activities provided by the Navajo Nation Department of Health and the 25th Navajo Nation Council.

During the celebration, Speaker Curley and Council Delegates Eugenia Charles-Newton, Amber Kanazbah Crotty, Dr. Andy Nez, and Vince R. James hosted a game for elders and led a scavenger hunt. Winners received Sání bowls filled with flour, Spam, and other food items to prepare a meal.

“Our elders are the keepers of our culture, our language and the teachings that bring harmony to our families,” Council Delegate Vince R. James said. “Their presence is a blessing, and we must remember to always be there for them, not only during special events, but every day. When we care for our elders and spend time with them, we honor the sacrifices they have made and the knowledge they continue to share with us.”

Under the 25th Navajo Nation Council tent, elders, families, and community members were invited to participate in free bingo hosted by the Council, Office of the Speaker, and NNYAC.

NNYAC members also provided refreshments and assisted throughout the day’s activities, Vice Chair Aryiah James and members Daelyn Benally and Makyle Dan helped distribute drinks, support event activities, and engage with elders and community members, strengthening connections between Navajo youth and elders during the celebration.

Elders Fest continues to be a gathering where families celebrate culture, community, and the wisdom passed between generations. The 25th Navajo Nation Council, Speaker Curley, and the NNYAC express their gratitude to all who participated in honoring elders.

As Navajo Nation Fair activities continue, the 25th Navajo Nation Council encourages everyone attending the fair and Navajo Nation Parade to stay safe, remain hydrated, and use caution while traveling and participating in events.

25th Navajo Nation Council hosts Zumba and family activities for 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair Kids Day celebration

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On Wednesday, the 25th Navajo Nation Council and the Office of the Speaker joined families and young children in celebrating Kids Day at the 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair, hosting free Zumba sessions, games, refreshments, and other activities for children and families visiting the fairgrounds.

“Kids Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate our young people and provide a safe, welcoming space where they can learn, have fun, and enjoy time with their friends and families,” said Speaker Crystalyne Curley. “Our children are at the heart of our communities, and it is important that we create positive experiences where they feel supported, encouraged, and connected. We are thankful to all the families who joined us and to the programs and organizations that helped make this a special day for our youth.”

Throughout the morning, families, students, and youth groups visiting the Navajo Nation Fair participated in free activities hosted by Navajo Nation departments and programs, businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations. Kids Day gives young people a chance to enjoy fun, educational activities while spending time with their families and communities during the annual fair.

At the 25th Navajo Nation Council tent, children and families participated in free Zumba sessions hosted in partnership with the Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project. The activities encouraged youth to stay active while having fun alongside their families and friends. Desert Nutrition provided refreshments, while the 25th Navajo Nation Council and the Office of the Speaker provided snacks, games, and Youth Day T-shirts for children who stopped by the tent.

Members of the 25th Navajo Nation Council and staff from the Office of the Speaker welcomed families throughout the celebration and joined young people in the day’s activities. The Council’s participation reflects its continued support for opportunities that promote healthy lifestyles, family engagement, and positive experiences for Navajo youth.

The 25th Navajo Nation Council and the Office of the Speaker thank the families, students, volunteers, Navajo Nation programs, schools, businesses, and community organizations that participated in this year’s Kids Day celebration and helped make the event welcoming and enjoyable for Navajo youth.
