The Navajo Nation is located in the southwest area of the United States and within the Navajo Nation are four states: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. The Navajo Nation is roughly over 27,000 square miles and the Navajo Police Department is responsible for providing police services to this area. The Navajo Police Department is under the Navajo Division of Public Safety and as a whole, is comprised of seven (7) Police Districts. Those Police Districts are Window Rock, Shiprock, Crownpoint, Tuba City, Chinle, Kayenta, and Dilkon. Emergency Contact Numbers:

FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz. - Today, May 28, 2026, at approximately 11:49 a.m., it was reported to the Navajo Police Department Window Rock District that a 2-year-old child was missing from a family’s residence.

The Navajo Police Department’s Missing Person’s (MP) Unit, the NPD Window Rock District, and Navajo Nation Fire and Rescue Services- Window Rock responded to the scene.

Minutes after their arrival, a child could be heard crying in the distance. The NPD MP Unit and a family member found the 2-year-old safe about 550 feet away from the residence.

The child was evaluated by medical personnel and found to have only minor scratches. The mother and child were transported to the Tsehootsoi Medical Center for further evaluation.

In the event that you have a loved one go missing, always report the missing person as soon as possible. Early notification from the family and a fast response from responders made all the difference with this situation.

The Navajo Police Department remembers and honors those that gave a legacy for our freedom.

Some gave a few years of service. Some gave a lifetime. And some gave everything.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the heroes who never made it home — the sons, daughters, parents, friends, and neighbors whose courage and sacrifice protect the freedoms we often take for granted.

Behind every flag placed, every folded uniform, and every silent moment of remembrance is a story of bravery, love, and devotion to something greater than self.

Today is more than the start of summer. It is a day to honor those who stood for our country and paid the ultimate price. May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we live in a way that honors their legacy.

Honoring Partnership, Service, and the Strength of Our Communities

This week at the Twin Arrows Casino and Resort in Flagstaff, Arizona, we witnessed a powerful reminder of what can happen when agencies come together with one shared purpose: to protect and serve our people with unity, respect, and commitment. The Navajo Police Department Cross‑Commission Training brought together 35 law enforcement officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Apache County Sheriff’s Office, Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hopi tribal Police Department, standing side‑by‑side with the Navajo Nation to strengthen the circle of safety around our communities.

This collaborative effort ensures that the agencies whose jurisdictions border or overlap the Navajo Nation are prepared, trained, and authorized to enforce Navajo Nation laws—helping to ensure more effective response by sharing resources, and upholding the safety of our families and homelands.

We were deeply appreciative to have the Honorable Judge Victor Clyde administer the Oath of Office whereby swearing in the newly cross‑commissioned officers, marking a meaningful step forward in partnership and shared responsibility.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the instructors and presenters who poured their knowledge, time, and passion into this training:

During National EMS Week, the Navajo Police Department and NPD Communication Bureau proudly recognizes and honors the dedicated Emergency Medical Services professionals who serve communities across the Navajo Nation with courage, compassion, and commitment.

Every day, EMS personnel answer the call during medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, critical incidents, and life-threatening situations. Their quick response, professionalism, and lifesaving care make a tremendous difference for our communities and families.

The Navajo Police Department values the strong partnership shared with EMS providers, dispatchers, firefighters, hospitals, and first responders who work together to protect the health and safety of the Navajo Nation. Whether responding during the day, late at night, or in difficult weather and road conditions, EMS personnel continue to demonstrate unwavering dedication to serving others.

This week, we extend our sincere appreciation to all EMTs, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, and ambulance personnel for the sacrifices they make and the care they provide throughout the Navajo Nation.

NATIONAL POLICE WEEK IN WASHINGTON, DC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives from the Navajo Police Department proudly attended National Police Week in Washington, D.C., joining law enforcement officers from across the United States in honoring the courage, sacrifice, and service of fallen officers.

Sergeant Lucy Dan, Officer Eldon Foster, and Officer Herbert Frazier represented the Navajo Nation during this year’s events, which pay tribute to officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and recognize the continued dedication of law enforcement professionals nationwide.

National Police Week serves as a time of remembrance, unity, and support for law enforcement families and agencies. The officers participated in memorial ceremonies, fellowship events, and gatherings honoring those who gave their lives protecting their communities.

The Navajo Police Department is honored to have Sergeant Dan, Officer Foster, and Officer Frazier represent the Navajo Nation on a national level. Their attendance reflects the department’s commitment to honoring the legacy of fallen officers while strengthening partnerships with fellow law enforcement agencies from across the country.

CHINLE, Ariz. — Navajo Police officers arrested Terrence Draper of Del Mu**to this morning.

At 10:45 AM, The Navajo Police Department Chinle District received reports that Terrence Draper was hiding inside a residential home in the Canyon De Chelly Housing. Terrence Draper was arrested without incident and booked into Chinle Correctional Detention Center.

Last night, Terrence Draper fled from law enforcement officers and made his way through a canyon area. Our officers followed his tracks to residential homes near Del Mu**to, AZ.

The Navajo Police would like to thank the community for taking the extra security measures last night and sharing the information with family, friends and their community.

CHINLE, Ariz. — Navajo Police officers are currently responding to an active incident involving an aggravated assault and violation of a court order approximately 5.8 miles east of Chinle, Arizona.

The suspect has fled from law enforcement officers and made his way through a canyon area. Our officers followed his tracks to residential homes near Del Mu**to, AZ.

The Navajo Police is searching for Terrence Draper. Terrance Draper last seen wearing black over black, carrying a back pack, and wearing a blue/black mask. Terrence Draper is considered armed and dangerous. Do not make contact with the suspect.

The Navajo Police is urging residents to lock your door, refrain from leaving your doors and windows unsecured.

There will be heavy police presence in the area. Report any suspicious person to the Navajo Police Chinle District at 928-674-2111

CHINLE, Ariz. — Navajo Police officers are currently responding to an active incident involving an aggravated assault and violation of a court order approximately 5.8 miles east of Chinle, Arizona.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on May 19, 2026, police dispatch received a report that an individual, who was reportedly under a restraining order, arrived at a residence and became involved in a verbal argument with family members. The suspect allegedly threatened the victims (parents) and brandished a shotgun during the incident.

The victims were able to safely exit the residence and contact authorities. Navajo Police Officers responded immediately and established a perimeter around the residence. Navajo Police SWAT Officers are currently attempting to call the suspect out of the home for a peaceful surrender.

The situation remains active and ongoing. Residents in the surrounding are asked to avoid the area. The victims are on scene with Navajo Police Officers outside the home and not harmed when leaving the resident.

Baca/Dlo'ay Azhi Community School Promotion Ceremony in Prewitt, N.M.

Yesterday, Officer Izzac Larry of the Navajo Nation Police Department had the honor of delivering the commencement speech during at the Baca/Dlo'ay Azhi Community School Promotion Ceremony in Prewitt, N.M.

During the speech, Officer Larry shared his journey from being “a rez boy with big dreams” to earning his Degree from Arizona State University and building a career within NPD. He spoke about his accomplishments in DWI enforcement, working alongside other law enforcement agencies, and how serving with the Navajo Police Department has provided opportunities to meet governors, state & federal leadership and leadership within the Navajo Nation.

Officer Larry encouraged students to stay focused, work hard, believe in themselves, and remain proud of who they are and where they come from, reminding them "You are the prayer your ancestors whispered into the wind, they survived too much for you to hide your light from the world."

Officer Larry did present the two top students with a Police Challenge Coin.
