After 43 years of service, the Navajo Police Department is honored to es**rt, this morning, retired Lieutenant Bennie Shirley, of Kinlichee, Ariz.

The procession began from Green Meadows Funeral Home, in St. Michael’s, AZ., continues to the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Chinle, and will proceed to his final resting place.

Lieutenant Shirley passed away on August 28, 2026, at the age of 84.

We pause to remember the number of years he served our communities, his legacy and the many years of his service that will continue to leave an impact with the generations of NPD officers who began their careers under his guidance and friendship. We will miss him dearly.

Our heartfelt prayers and condolences remain with the Shirley family during this time.
