FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz. - Today, May 28, 2026, at approximately 11:49 a.m., it was reported to the Navajo Police Department Window Rock District that a 2-year-old child was missing from a family’s residence.
The Navajo Police Department’s Missing Person’s (MP) Unit, the NPD Window Rock District, and Navajo Nation Fire and Rescue Services- Window Rock responded to the scene.
Minutes after their arrival, a child could be heard crying in the distance. The NPD MP Unit and a family member found the 2-year-old safe about 550 feet away from the residence.
The child was evaluated by medical personnel and found to have only minor scratches. The mother and child were transported to the Tsehootsoi Medical Center for further evaluation.
In the event that you have a loved one go missing, always report the missing person as soon as possible. Early notification from the family and a fast response from responders made all the difference with this situation.
