Navajo Nation Judicial Branch Peacemaking Program The Navajo Nation Judicial Branch Peacemaking Program is an alternative to Western Judicial methods that has roots in Navajo common law.

The Navajo Nation Judicial Branch Peacemaking Program is established in the Navajo Nation Code, under Title VII, §409. The main purpose of the Peacemaking Program is to promote a non-adversarial forum for solving disputes and to promote hózhójí (harmony) among participants in the program through the promotion and utilization of traditional counseling services. In addition to this, the Peacemaking

Program provides education and training on Navajo culture, traditions, and other Navajo accepted beliefs to individuals, organizations, and communities. The program has the responsibility to provide assistance to peacemakers, Judges, Court staff, and other individuals concerning the peacemaking process (Title VII, §410). Principles of Diné bi beenahaz’áanii are applicable in all Program Services.
