What a great week of training for the Southeastern NH Hazmat Team!

Over the course of four days, team members received hands-on training with newly acquired grant-funded equipment, focusing on confined space rescue and technical rope rescue operations taught by a CMC instructor.

Members developed proficiency in constructing and operating rope systems, conducting litter-based rescue evolutions, utilizing tripods and multipod systems, and performing scenarios designed to reinforce operational readiness and technical rescue capabilities.

A huge thank you to CMC: Rescue, Safety, Access, the New Hampshire Fire Academy, Windham Fire Department, and all participating agencies for their support and commitment to training.

We are currently seeking firefighters from our district communities to join us at a four-day hands-on training class with a CMC: Rescue, Safety, Access instructor. This isn’t classroom heavy training. It’s practical, scenario-based work where you’ll rig systems, operate haul and lowering setups, and solve problems the same way you would on the fireground.

Starting with fundamentals, participants will get comfortable with personal gear, rope management, and mechanical advantage systems using equipment like the Clutch, Capto, and Prusiks. As the training progresses, crews will build into more advanced operations including high directional setups with the Arizona Vortex, twin tension rope systems, and patient packaging using the litter and harness systems.

Confined space operations will be a major focus, incorporating the Triskelion, Harken Lokhead winch systems, and entry hardware to simulate realistic vertical and horizontal entries.

Don’t miss this exciting, free, opportunity provided by our team through grant funding! Space is limited due to instructor/student ratios. Contact your department’s Fire Chief for approval and to have your department secure your spot in the class. Class will be held in several locations in the greater Manchester area May 26-29, 2026.

Training this month at Derry, NH Fire Department Headquarters included classroom and hands on exercises utilizing some of the district’s new ropes equipment. We were able to take advantage of some of the new training props built into this new fire station.

This is a small portion of the equipment purchased this year using grant funds. Today’s training was a primer for an upcoming four day class with an instructor from the manufacturer.

Early this morning, Londonderry, NH Fire Department requested our Hazmat team to respond to a fuel-truck rollover on the I-93 New Exit 4A overpass.

Derry, NH Fire Department Emergency Communications dispatched a spill trailer and Hazmat Team personnel to a fuel tanker on its roof with an active fuel leak.

Our team worked alongside Londonderry Fire to contain the spill, control the product, and limit environmental impact. Crews remained on scene through vehicle recovery while the truck was righted and the remaining fuel was off-loaded safely.

Strong work by all personnel operating under challenging conditions.

Team members gathered yesterday at Anheuser-Busch in Merrimack to learn about the plant’s anhydrous ammonia systems.

Technicians made several level A entries to practice their skills mitigating simulated leaks from a training prop. Members also received a detailed tour of the facility and its hazards to help expedite a response in the event of a hazardous release.

We thank the staff at the facility for sharing their decades of knowledge and for hosting our monthly training.

🚨 Hydrocarbon Containment Training on Lake Massabesic 🚨

Today, members of the Southeastern NH Hazardous Materials Mutual Aid District conducted a hydrocarbon containment and diversion exercise on Lake Massabesic, working alongside Windham Fire Department, City of Manchester, NH Fire Department, Auburn NH Fire Department, Derry, NH Fire Department, and City of Manchester, NH Water Works.

The scenario simulated a fuel release on the water, with crews deploying floating booms and coordinating operations from both the shoreline and incident command. These hands-on exercises are critical for ensuring preparedness and seamless coordination among local, regional, and utility partners.

Lake Massabesic is a vital resource—spanning over 2,500 acres and storing nearly 15 billion gallons of water. It provides drinking water for more than 200,000 residents across Southern New Hampshire.

Training like this helps protect that resource while keeping our communities safe.
