Piedmont Judicial Circuit Specialty Courts

Piedmont Judicial Circuit Specialty Courts Our goals are to reduce recidivism, assist individuals in need of recovery &/or mental health stabilization and make our communities healthier and safer.

The Specialty Courts of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit, consisting of Barrow, Jackson, and Banks counties, and under the supervision of the Superior Court, are composed of two court programs in Barrow and Jackson Counties – Drug Court and Mental Health Court. All programs’ primary goals are to reduce recidivism, assist individuals in need of recovery and/or mental health stabilization and make our

communities safer through structured, cost effective programming. The Felony Drug Court provides a non-traditional approach to working with individuals in our criminal justice system by offering a judicially supervised intensive outpatient substance use disorder treatment program instead of incarceration. The Mental Health Court provides an alternative to incarceration by way of monitored personalized treatment plans for mental health needs. Individuals in Mental Health Court and Drug Court may receive treatment for substance use disorder and/or mental health, as applicable for those in need of treatment for co-occurring disorders. Both programs consider referrals with pending felony charges and violations of probation and last a minimum of 18 months with a cap of 3 years. If you or someone you know could benefit from a specialty courts program, please contact us for more information on how our referral process works.
