Grand Midway Hotel

Grand Midway Hotel 130 years haunted and getting worse... Paranormal teams may rent the entire hotel for private investigations. No place like it. Not for everyone. Snoop around!

Or, book your business or private party ghost tour. This is a one of a kind location. We've grown into a little campus with the Grand Midway Hotel, Shakespeare House, Midway Elf House, American Renaissance Church, Graveyard, among other locations. We are most popular around Halloween. The scene is a lot of paranormal enthusiasts and ghost hunters, but also a little of Andy Warhol's Factory, Disney's Haunted Mansion, Hearst's Castle, Hollywood's Magic Castle, Coppola's Zoetrope, Forrest Ackerman's Famous Monsters of Filmland, Alex Grey's CoSM, Lord Byron's Villa Diodati, Allen Ginsberg's kitchen, and Prince's Paisley Park. Though the Grand Midway was an invitation-only, haunted private home for twenty years, we now open to the public for creepy overnight stays on weekends ($150 a suite) or ghost hunt team investigations rental ($450 entire hotel). Text 310-827-1748. Buy cool swag! Support monsters! The hotel has an elaborate web page to experience the full picture: www.GrandMidwayHotel.com

Two novels are set in the Midway, The Werewolf Lotus and The First Noelle. An award-winning feature film is set here as well, Zombie Dream. This is the local demon screamer who shows up every Saturday and Sunday morning 9am to shout at the hotel, guests, investigators, tourists, and our family members. Last Fall he vowed shouting from Graham Avenue that he was going to "Charlie Kirk" us all. He's crazy but still these are serious threats. Last winter on a Thursday night guests started texting me at 11pm that he was on the side of the hotel in the shadows shouting at them through the side windows that they were all demons. This has been going on for two years. My 9 year old, the first one up, has been threatened and cursed at every weekend for two years. Her friends as well. He just curses and barks about demons and threatens. Neighbors have informed me how he brags to them the goal is to run us all out of town. Three weeks agoo he was so vicious and over the top vulgar to a young mom who was just sitting on my porch with her kids just behind her that the police had had enough. He's been served for harassment. Regardless, he's back right this minute out front my place. So, I turned a video on to ask him why. It's not like he is just harassing us though, many people in Windber have had to endure his vulgar raging. I've heard many stories. So if you'd like to speak up in court of you've endured from him, reach out to the Windber Police and you can add your say too Tuesday Sept 29 at 10 AM at 1510 Jefferson Ave in WIndber, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania vs Robert Alan Jurish.

In our ever-growing expansion of the Midway campus as well as efforts to fix up and rescue historic old properties in Windber we are proud to announce we just purchased the Windber Builders House. Already in two weeks building cleared out, inside painted, water on, electric on, and a new metal roof...full speed ahead! (That makes 7: Holy Child Church, Old Radio Station, Midway Hotel, Shakespeare House, Anderson's Store, Windber Builder's House, and a parking lot!). ...Takes a bow.

The legendary John Cassady (son of the legendary Neal Cassady who inspired the fantastic American character Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac's novel On The Road) visiting from California standing before the Alan Freed sidewalk star and Alan Freed Historic State sign. Many travelers make the homage to Windber to take their picture with the Freed markers. (This photo is a little wavy because it is just a jpeg plucked from digital video I shot of him visiting Windber in October for the Kerouacfests around 2004. Named after writer Jack Kerouac and poet Allen Ginsberg and counterculture, Beat muse, catalyst Neal Cassady, John told amazing stories! ...Like one teenage afternoon of his father snatching him out of high school to surprise him with the Merry Pranksters who then drove young John to a show at another high school where he met and after show got to play with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, among endless other fantastic, fun memories. He was like a cultural jukebox. John later came back three September weekend visits here to Windber for his birthdays. As I secretly watched him slowly walking up to read the Freed sign the words that came to mind to me in that moment were "intimate" and "epic".)

Windber PA looking West from corner of 15th and Graham Avenue possibly as early as 1899. View looks across from the Windber Hotel, which then was originally called the Leister Hotel. Notice no sidewalk yet on North side of Graham Avenue. More likely 1904-1905. Graham Avenue was originally called Gasworks Lane, also known as Pennsylvania 160. Winton Motor Carriage in background? Werewolf Park had a small fenced-in area with a gate that was considered "safer" for curious onlookers.
