Franklin County TN Mayor's Office-County Mayor Richard Stewart page of the Franklin County Mayor's Office. Richard Stewart is currently Franklin County's Mayor. Richard and Sandra wed in 1969.

Richard Stewart began his second term as county mayor after being re-elected in 2010. The purpose of the Franklin County Mayor's Office page is to provide a means of communicating important information to the citizens of Franklin County and to share with the public some of the day-to-day business of the Franklin County Mayor's Office. Richard Stewart was born in 1948 in Lincoln County Ten

nessee. Richard attended Austin Peay State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970. While attending Austin Peay, Richard met his wife, Franklin County Native Sandra Lester. Richard’s first teaching job in 1970 began under Principal H. Louis Scott at North Junior High School in Franklin County. In December of 1971, Richard and Sandra had their first child, Eric. Three more children; Ryan, Cortney, and Kyle followed over the next 13 years as Richard continued his teaching and coaching career at North Junior High and later at Franklin County High School. Richard established various businesses in Franklin County two of which are Stewart Insurance Agency and Stewart Aluminum Products. Richard’s interest in government began first as Wi******er City Councilman. Richard served on the Wi******er City Council from 1982 to 1989. Before being elected to his first term as Wi******er City Mayor in 1999, Richard was narrowly defeated in the Democratic Primary for State Representative for the 39th District. After two terms of serving as Mayor for the City of Wi******er, Richard was elected Franklin County Mayor, accepting the oath of office on September 1, 2006.

Franklin County Court System will continue with morning docket, afternoon docket starting at 1:00 PM is cancelled. Circuit Court Clerk's Office is closing at 12:00 Noon. If you have any question regarding County Government closings please call 967-2905. If you have a non-emergency issue please call Communications at 967-2331. Please use extra caution and stay safe!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month at STRHS Wi******er Women’s Center

WHEREAS, while considerable progress has been made in the fight against breast cancer, it remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of death among women in the United States; and

WHEREAS, each year it is estimated that more than 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die as a result of the disease; and

WHEREAS, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness about the disease; and

WHEREAS, during this month, we reaffirm our commitment to support breast cancer research and to educate all citizens about its risk factors, detection and treatment; and

WHEREAS, as we facilitate a Women’s Health fair to promote the well-being of women, we also support those courageously fighting breast cancer and honor the lives lost to the disease; and

WHEREAS, this October, we recognize breast cancer survivors, those battling the disease, their families and friends who are a tireless source of love and encouragement, and applaud the efforts of our medical professionals and researchers working to find a cure for this deadly disease; and

WHEREAS, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to unite all citizens in our community to prevent breast cancer deaths through increased education and regular screening;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard Stewart, Mayor of Franklin County, do hereby proclaim the month of October, in Franklin County, TN as Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I would like to invite you to check out the new Video Tour of Franklin County located on the home page of our website at www.franklincotn.us or at the link below. The Video Tour has seven chapters which include; Welcome, Education, Real Estate, Healthcare & Quality of Life, Doing Business in Franklin County, History, and Community Involvement. This project has been at no cost to the county due to the sponsorships of various local businesses whom we greatly appreciate!
