Our hearts are heavy.
In Loving Memory of Charlie Shaw 🖤🏁
With incredibly heavy hearts, we share the passing of Charlie Shaw, owner of Wi******er Speedway, at the age of 90.
Charlie’s life was built around a lifelong love of racing. For him, racing was never simply about cars going around a track. It was about the people, the stories, the friendships, and the community that made racing so special.
For nearly three decades, Charlie was a part of the Wi******er Speedway family. He loved this place deeply, and he especially loved the people who filled it every race weekend.
Charlie loved the race fans. He genuinely enjoyed getting to know them, hearing their stories, and learning about the lives behind the faces he saw at the track. Whether out in the community or visiting his Speedway campground, Charlie could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He treasured those conversations and the friendships that came from them.
Charlie also loved his team, which we lovingly dubbed “the A-team.” The people who worked alongside him at Wi******er Speedway were much more than employees or coworkers — he treated them like family. He cared about them, supported them, and took great pride in the people who helped make Wi******er Speedway what it is.
And if you knew Charlie, you knew he was always ready with a joke. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and a laugh that could light up the room. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember that laugh, his stories, his jokes, and the way he could make people feel like old friends.
Charlie leaves behind three children and a lifetime of memories shared with his family, his Speedway family, friends, drivers, teams, and countless race fans who came to know and love him.
There is no way to measure the impact Charlie had on Wi******er Speedway or on the people who became part of its story. His love for this track and for racing will forever be a part of Wi******er.
Charlie loved Wi******er Speedway.
Charlie loved his team.
Charlie loved the race fans.
And the Wi******er family loved Charlie.
We ask that you keep Charlie’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Information regarding visitation and funeral services will be shared publicly once the family has everything coordinated. We will post those details here as soon as they are available.
Thank you, Charlie, for a lifetime of racing, laughter, stories, friendship, and memories.
