The Story of the Brill Mansion
The Brill family originally came from Holland in the early 1800’s. David Brill was a farmer at the time of the Revolution and his family came from the Town of Half-Moon to Wilton in the year 1813. His son, John, who had fought in the War of 1812, married Harriet Pearsall in 1817. She was a native of Wilton. John and Harriet had seven children and it was the youngest of their sons, John J. Brill, born in May of 1827, who built the brick residence which still stands on the property.
John J. Brill married Frances King, whose father was one of the earliest settlers of the Town of Greenfield. It is believed the house was constructed in the year 1870. While the Brill’s built and lived in this estate it was sold sometime in the late 1800’s to the Denton family. In 1900 it was purchased by Addie L. Waller. She and her husband, Charles had two sons, Brayton and Arthur. Under the Waller’s ownership it was used as a dairy farm until 1945.
In 1946 it was purchased by Donald H. Pepper and his wife, Dorothy A. Rumpf. It was under the ownership of the Peppers that it became known as Pepper’s Turkey Farm. Currently it is owned by Michael Blaauboer. He is taking the time to return it to its historical charm while also giving it the modern touches and updates it needs before putting it on the market. Many people in Saratoga today have fond memories of the Pepper farm and have stopped by the house to share stories of its past. The community is very excited to see this once gorgeous house returned to its former glory. While the renovations will include all of the modern amenities needed for today’s living, it will also ensure the preservation of many historical features and character that can only be found in a house built in the 1800’s. Please enjoy the renovation journey and be on the lookout for the listing date when renovations are completed. You could be the next owner of this piece of history!
