Look Who Visited the Wilton Candy Kitchen... Iowa’s Best Bagger! 🏆

Sometimes a photo gets taken with every intention of sharing it, and then the busyness of summer takes over! Back in March, we had such a fun visit from Karen Fischlein and her friend Kyle Bitterman of Davenport.

Karen grew up here in Wilton and like her sister, Thelma Nopoulos worked here when she was young.

Karen thought Kyle needed a trip to Wilton so she could show off a little piece of her hometown history!

We snapped this picture during their visit but never got around to sharing it. Now we're actually glad we waited, because we have something pretty special to brag about!

Kyle Bitterman is officially Iowa’s Best Bagger! 🛒🏆

Kyle competed against 14 other contestants in the Iowa Best Bagger Contest at the Iowa State Fair on August 14. After three preliminary rounds, the field was narrowed to seven finalists and Kyle finished FIRST!

Along with the title of Iowa Best Bagger, Kyle received a trophy, a $500 prize and a trip for two to Las Vegas, where he will represent Iowa at the National Best Bagger Competition in February 2027!

Congratulations, Kyle! We were happy to have you and Karen as our guests at the Candy Kitchen back in March, but now we'll be able to say that Iowa's Best Bagger has been behind our counter! 😄

Good luck in Las Vegas, Kyle, we'll be cheering for you from Wilton! And Karen, thanks for bringing another new friend our way. ❤️

Congratulations to Randy Sikkema on the publication of his remarkable new book, GOLF 99!
In 2020, Randy set out to play golf in all 99 of Iowa’s counties. Along the way, he visited all 390 golf courses in the state. More than a golfing adventure, his journey became a celebration of Iowa’s communities and the wonderful “Iowa Nice” people he met along the way.
We were especially honored that Randy highlighted Wilton and the Wilton Candy Kitchen in the Muscatine County section of his book. Yesterday, he stopped by the Candy Kitchen, where Brenda and I had the pleasure of autographing his copy and catching up with his once again.
Congratulations, Randy on an outstanding accomplishment. Golf 99 is a wonderful tribute to Iowa, its golf courses, and the people and communities that make our state so special.
