WCSPC was honored to join prevention professionals from across North Carolina for the inaugural NC Primary Prevention Advocacy Day. We appreciated the opportunity to meet with Representative Dante Pittman and Senator Buck Newton to share prevention efforts taking place in Wilson County. In this full-day training, you’ll learn how to help people ages 18 and older. Topics include anxiety, depression, psychosis and substance use. You’ll be able to:
-Understand the impact of early intervention.
-Recognize signs and symptoms with skills-based scenarios.
-Explain and use the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE).
-Address stigma and explain that recovery is possible.
-Ensure safety and privacy during conversations.
-Choose methods for self-care for yourself and others.

Every overdose reversed is another chance for someone to recover, and every fentanyl test strip can save a life. These practices are key to preventing overdose fatalities and continued substance use.

Drug Contamination Awareness ⚠️

Not all substances contain what people think they do.

Drug contamination happens when substances are mixed with other drugs, fillers, or unexpected ingredients—sometimes without a person’s knowledge. This can increase the risk of overdose, unexpected reactions, and other serious health concerns.

Ways to reduce risk:
🔹 Never use alone if possible.
🔹 Carry naloxone and know how to use it.
🔹 Use fentanyl and xylazine test strips when available.
🔹 Start with a small amount.
🔹 Let someone know where you are or use a phone-based safety service.
🔹 Seek medical help if someone is unresponsive or experiencing an overdose.

Harm reduction is about keeping people alive, informed, and safer. Knowledge saves lives.

The Wilson County Substance Prevention Coalition (WCSPC) is seeking a Program Implementation Manager to help lead and support initiatives focused on substance use prevention, treatment, recovery, and risk reduction throughout Wilson County and the surrounding region.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys:

-Tracking data, outcomes, and reporting requirements
-Turning strategic plans into measurable results
