Three Facts About Old Glory on this Flag Day 2026:

Pennsylvania is the only state that treats Flag Day as an official legal holiday.

June 14 is also the U.S. Armys Birthday.

Two years before the flag was approved (1777), the Continental Congress created the Continental Army on the same date in 1775—so soldiers and stripes share the celebration.

A teacher in tiny Waubeka, Wisconsin sparked it all.

In 1885, Bernard J. Cigrand asked his one-room schoolhouse to mark June 14 with a “Flag Birthday” lesson—planting the grassroots seed that eventually bloomed into the national observance.
