Labor Day weekend is fast approaching, the time when we take a moment to recognize the struggle of laborers and organizers to guarantee the safety, health, and sanity of those that toil. As such, it’s also a time to kick back and take a break. To celebrate we made a playlist about work and play, the joys and pains of making ends meet.

We will be closed for Labor Day (9/7)

Wilson County Government offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026 for the Labor Day Holiday. Our offices will be open providing quality public services on Tuesday, September 8 at 8:00 a.m.
As a reminder, Public Safety and Emergency Services are always on a normal schedule.

Happy World Beard Day!

World Beard Day is here!

Beards are more than just a style choice. Facial hair has been part of human history for thousands of years and can even serve a few practical purposes. Beards may provide some protection from the sun, help keep the face warm in colder weather, and trap small particles like dust and pollen before they reach the skin.

And here’s another fun fact: beard hair is usually coarser and grows differently than the hair on your head because it is influenced by hormones and genetics.

World Beard Day is a fun reminder that science can be found everywhere, even right on our faces!
