Congratulations to Holly Johnston, who was chosen as a NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year Finalist!

Twenty-seven teachers from across North Carolina have been selected as finalists for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award for their dedication, innovation, and ability to inspire students to achieve. One of these talented educators will be named the 2024 NCCAT Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year after being selected by a panel of judges. They will participate in a week for professional development at NCCAT February 12-16, 2024. The award will be presented on February 15, 2024, at the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center on the Western Carolina University campus in Cullowhee.

Well deserved honor, A.J.!

Shout Out! to Wilson Academy of Applied Technology Science Teacher AJ Gunter for being recognized by the Wilson County Board of Education on Nov. 20. He received a Good News Award for his invitation to serve on the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Advisory Board! The board is comprised of nominees representing various education stakeholder groups in North Carolina, which includes the state’s Teacher and Principal of the Year; superintendents; North Carolina Teaching Fellows alumni; school district employees; college and university staff; and nonprofit education partners. The purpose of the Advisory Board is to advocate for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program across the state, explore opportunities for partnerships, provide ideas for program enrichment and support initiatives for teachers. We know that Mr. Gunter - who is only in his second year of teaching - will represent our district well! He is pictured with Board Member Rhyan Breen.
