Good Evening Panther Parents and Guardians,

This is Dr. Lott, assistant principal of Vick Elementary, with important reminders for parents and guardians.

First, I would like to thank our students, parents, and families for a fantastic first two weeks of the school year!

Tomorrow, Monday, September 7, is a holiday. School will be closed for students and staff. School will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th.

On Wednesday, September 9, all 3rd Grade students will take the Beginning of Grade 3 Reading Test, a mandatory annual state test for all third graders in North Carolina. Please ensure your 3rd Grade student is present and ready for testing by 8:30 AM when testing begins promptly. Please make every effort to have your child at school before 8:30 AM.

Important: Parents, each year you must update your child’s proof of residency. Please send or bring 2 proofs of residency for your child to the front office. You may send these documents with your child if you cannot make it to the school building.

Volunteer System Requirement: To participate in field trips or eat lunch with your child, you must complete and be approved in our volunteer system. This simple step helps us maintain a safe environment for all students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

For the 5th year in a row, Vick Elementary has MET EVAAS GROWTH! 🙌🏾

So, what does that mean for our families and community?

It means our students are GROWING academically!

EVAAS is one way schools measure student academic growth. Instead of only looking at a test score, it looks at students' progress. When a school meets growth, it means students made the academic progress they were expected to make during the year.

And our Panthers have done that for FIVE YEARS IN A ROW!

That is worth celebrating! It represents our students' hard work, our teachers' and staff's dedication, and the continued support of our families and community.

But we aren't done yet! This year, we are raising the bar!

Our goals are to:

EXCEED EVAAS Growth. Our goal is to grow our students beyond their expected academic progress.

Become a "C" School. Our goal is to increase our school score from 44 to 55.

We are proud of how far we have come, and we are excited about where we are going!

Together we build. Together we rise. Together we will change the narrative.

Building Readers. Growing Leaders.

Our Panther CREW is proudly wearing this year’s staff shirt, and the message says exactly where our focus is LITERACY!

This year, we are working together to grow strong, confident readers because we know that when we grow readers, we grow leaders!

Parents and guardians, we need YOU as part of this work! Please make reading part of your family’s nightly routine. Read with your child, read to your child, or have your child read to you. Even a few minutes each night makes a difference.

And don’t forget HOMEWORK started this week! Be sure to check those bookbags this afternoon for homework and other important information.

Let's work together to help our Panthers grow!

Building Readers. Growing Leaders. Changing the Narrative.

We have 56.75% of parents who have completed the parent portal sign-up. Parents, you must set up your parent portal accounts so that your child can access specific school learning supports. Please come to the front office to receive your Parent Portal letter and to sign up or check your email for the Parent Portal message.

📣 School Meals and Fee Waiver Information

All Wilson County Schools students are receiving breakfast and lunch at no cost to families this year. Fee waivers for families that would like to seek a waiver for fees associated with technology, Driver Education and ACT/SAT testing can be found in the yearly update in Infinite Campus. Log into your Infinite Campus account and click More to find the yearly update section.

Families that received a Direct Services letter from School Nutrition are automatically eligible for a fee waiver. The Direct Services letters were sent to families earlier this month. You can submit this letter to your student’s school for fees to be waived.

If you did not receive a Direct Services letter, your family can request a fee waiver by submitting a Needs Based Assistance Request through the form on our district website, which can be found under Families - Needs Based Assistance, or at this link - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfJpkHAxqtEEyUcaAkkTtrOmz88gYimmLGQ0CinX8TQFB5sBw/viewform.
