Buckle Up Wilmore!
Each year in Kentucky, more than half of those killed on our roadways are unrestrained. As law enforcement officers, it is our greatest wish to spread the message about the importance of seat belts and remind people that the two seconds it takes to buckle up is the easiest way to reduce your chance of injury or death. That is why we're joining the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement nationwide for the 2026 Click It or Ticket enforcement mobilization May 11– May 31. We want seat belt use to be an automatic habit for both drivers and passengers. No matter the type of vehicle you are in, or the time of day you’re driving, the best way to stay safe is to wear your seat belt. Every trip, every time. According to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, of the 813 roadway deaths last year in Kentucky, 550 were occupants of motor vehicles. Of those killed in motor vehicle crashes, 280 were either not wearing a seat belt or were not properly restrained in a car seat or booster seat. Eight of the 550 were children aged 9 and under. One of the nine was improperly restrained. This is not a campaign to write tickets or train law enforcement. This is a campaign to help keep people safe and alive. We see the causalities of not buckling up, and we do not wish that devastation on anyone. Believe me, we would rather write a seat belt citation than make a death notification. Please, buckle up.

Asbury University is hosting the 2026 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Track & Field Championships this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

All events will take place at The Gray Outdoor Venue located behind the Luce Center.

Approximately 30 schools and around 400 student athletes will be participating. All schools and spectators attending have been asked to enter Asbury's campus from Harrodsburg Rd. (US 68) on West Main St./Jewell Rd. (KY 1268). The hope is that this will lessen the impact on traffic on Lexington Ave., the rest of Main Street, and other roadways leading into town.

We ask that Wilmore residents be patient if the normal traffic flow should become affected.

We are especially proud of Ofc. Toms, who works hard to instill strong decision-making skills in every student he teaches. His dedication goes far beyond the classroom. Serving as the Vice President of the Kentucky D.A.R.E. Officers' Association, he truly demonstrates his passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.

The Wilmore Police Department was proud to participate in the Touch-A-Truck event at Wilmore Elementary School. Officers enjoyed the opportunity to connect with students, share what it’s like to be a police officer, and showcase their equipment. It was a great day of community engagement and hands-on learning for everyone involved.
