Yesterday, the Wilmore Fire Department proudly celebrated the graduation of Recruit Class 2026, marking the successful completion of months of rigorous training, testing, and preparation to serve our community.

Please join us in congratulating our newest firefighters: James Pettit, Mitchell Crowe, and Zach Mallicoate. Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, these recruits have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and commitment required to earn the title of firefighter and begin serving the citizens of Wilmore. While Firefighter Mallicoate was unable to attend the graduation ceremony, he was recognized for his accomplishments. He is currently fulfilling his military obligations with the National Guard as his unit prepares for deployment to Iraq later this year. We thank him for both his service to our community and our nation.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Harold Rainwater and City Council members Brumfield and Bathje for taking time out of their weekend to attend the ceremony and show their support for these new firefighters. Their presence reflects the strong partnership between the City of Wilmore and its fire department. Congratulations to Recruit Class 2026, and welcome to the brotherhood of the fire service. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these firefighters will have while serving our community.

The Wilmore Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of a new Kawasaki Mule UTV, replacing a John Deere Gator that served our department for several years and was more than 20 years old.

This new vehicle will enhance our ability to serve the community during the numerous public events we attend each year by providing a smaller, more maneuverable platform capable of quickly navigating crowded areas. The Mule increases seating capacity from two to four personnel, features a convertible cargo area to support a variety of department needs, offers increased storage for equipment, and provides an additional four-wheel-drive capable vehicle for use during significant snow events and other challenging conditions.

The department was able to purchase the vehicle through a local dealer at a significant cost below retail value, maximizing the purchase while investing in equipment that will serve our community for many years to come. We appreciate the continued support of the Wilmore City Council and look forward to putting this new resource to work in service of our citizens and visitors.

📊 Wilmore Fire Department Monthly Statistics 🚒

During this reporting period, Wilmore Fire Department personnel responded to 59 incidents throughout our community. Engine 81 remained our busiest apparatus, responding to 46 calls, while our command staff, truck company, squad, and specialized resources all played key roles in serving our citizens.

Our busiest day of the week was Tuesday, and call volume was spread throughout the day, highlighting the need for around-the-clock readiness.

These numbers represent more than statistics—they represent neighbors helping neighbors, firefighters answering the call, and a continued commitment to serving our community whenever and wherever we are needed.

Thank you to our firefighters, officers, and support personnel for their dedication and professionalism. We are proud to serve the City of Wilmore and surrounding areas.

Last night, our recruits completed their first night of Job Performance Review (JPR) testing practice. In the coming days, recruits will be evaluated on a variety of firefighter skills, demonstrating competency to department training staff and leadership as they work to prove they are ready to go on line and serve our community.

These evaluations are more than just testing skills — they are about proving commitment, discipline, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure when the community needs them most.

Last night also included a tradition at WFD. Without warning, recruits experienced the surprise “water drop” from senior members. While it may appear to be just another firehouse prank on the surface, it actually carries a much deeper meaning within the department.

The water drop symbolizes the blessing and approval of the senior members — a sign telling recruits to finish strong, prove their skills, and earn the honor of wearing our WFD patch.

We are proud of the hard work these recruits continue to display and look forward to seeing them complete their testing and officially graduate recruit academy.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting the freedoms we enjoy will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect on those who gave everything for our nation and to keep their families in your thoughts and prayers.

From all of us at the Wilmore Fire Department, we extend our deepest gratitude to our fallen heroes and the military families who continue to carry their legacy.

🇺🇸 “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

The department is proud to announce the acquisition of an additional drone as we continue growing and expanding the capabilities of our Drone/UAV Operations Program.

This new drone brings several advanced features that will enhance our ability to serve both our responders and community, including:

• Thermal imaging and visual light camera capabilities
• Extended operational range
• Split-screen viewing that displays both thermal and visual cameras simultaneously
• Up to 128x zoom capabilities for enhanced situational awareness
• Compatibility with our current field-deployable monitor system, providing command staff and drone pilots with a larger viewing screen during operations

These advanced tools will assist personnel during emergency incidents, search operations, fireground operations, damage assessments, public safety incidents, and other critical responses where aerial support and enhanced visibility can make a difference.

As technology continues to evolve, so does our commitment to utilizing innovative tools that improve safety, efficiency, and service to our community. These additional capabilities will strengthen our ability to protect lives, support our responders, and better serve the citizens we are honored to protect each day.

Today marked the final day of training for our Recruit Academy as recruits wrapped up their driver/operator training. Over the past several months, these recruits have dedicated countless hours to developing the knowledge, skills, and discipline required to serve our community safely and professionally.

With academy training now complete, recruits will spend the next week preparing for their Job Performance Review (JPR) testing as they take the final steps toward graduation on June 6th.

While the academy may be coming to an end, this is only the beginning of their journey in the fire service. Graduation is not the finish line, but the start of a career built on continued training, sharpening their skills, and striving every day to better serve the community.

We are proud of the hard work, commitment, and growth shown by each recruit throughout the academy and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at graduation.

Week 17 of Recruit Academy

This week our recruits began one of the most critical phases of their training — pump operations. Recruits are learning the fundamentals of operating fire apparatus pumps, establishing water supply, and delivering effective fire flows on the fireground. These skills are essential to supporting suppression operations and ensuring crews have the water they need when seconds matter.

It’s hard to believe there are only a couple weeks of class remaining before graduation. The hard work, long hours, and dedication shown by this class continue to be evident each week as they prepare to transition from recruits to firefighters.

We are proud of the progress this class has made and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at graduation on June 6th.

The past few days, crews from Wilmore Fire were proud to provided fire and EMS standby coverage for the NCCAA National Track & Field Championships hosted by Asbury University.

From explosive sprint finishes and distance races to field events showcasing incredible strength and precision, athletes from across the country put on an impressive display of talent, determination, and hard work. Even more impressive than the performances was the sportsmanship shown between teams throughout the event — athletes cheering each other on, celebrating accomplishments together, and representing their schools with class.

Our crews also enjoyed spending time alongside the Asbury Athletic Trainers, who gave us a glimpse into the fast-paced and demanding world of athletic training. From treating injuries and monitoring hydration to keeping athletes competition-ready throughout long days in the sun, their dedication to student-athlete safety does not go unnoticed. We appreciated the good company, great conversation, and teamwork throughout the championships.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event a success. We’re already looking forward to being back next year!
