The Wilmington Police Department, Vermont would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our community members who supported WPD's 2026 Vermont Special Olympics fundraising efforts. For the second consecutive year, WPD has been the top fundraiser for LE agencies in Vermont. This is thanks to your support.
Wilmington Police Department, Vermont has a long history of supporting Vermont Special Olympics, the Vermont Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, and the Annual Special Persons Ride (snowmobile).
This was our third year hosting the Torch Run here in Wilmington. Previously, WPD officers would travel to other locations in the state to participate in the torch run. WPD would like to thank the teachers and staff of TVM/HS, the bus drivers, the students, our community members who ran or cheered, The Moover, Wilmington Fire Department, Deerfield Valley Rescue and Deputy Pinger from Windham County Sheriff's Department.
Wilmington is a small community, but big in heart.
Thanks for supporting Special Olympics Vermont.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,--

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln
