Thank you to the Riverlights community for hosting such a wonderful evening on the river in support of Dr. Kimberly Hardy for Congress.

We were honored to hear from North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Mo Green, who shared both the challenges facing our public schools and the importance of strong federal, state, and local partnerships if we are to achieve North Carolina’s goal of having the best public schools in the South by 2030.

The contrast in this race could not be clearer. While Dr. Hardy will fight for our public schools, her opponent has repeatedly introduced legislation to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.

It was also great to see School Board candidates Margie Gewirtzman and Jerry Jones join the conversation. Public education matters, and so does this election.

👀 This is the teacher salary schedule for the whole state. Starting pay is $41,000 per year which is equal to $23/hour in a 10 month period (for those “but they get summers off” people 🙄…nvmd that most teachers plan lessons and attend PD during the summer, oh, and on weekends AND during holiday breaks).

We’d also like to point out that pay bumps for Masters degrees and PhDs no longer exist. 😡

So that’s 15 years of Republican control in Raleigh and 15 years of the destruction of our public education system.

If you want something different, you better vote for someone different.

On May 1, North Carolina educators walked out — not for attention, but because the system is breaking.

For years, the Republican majority has pushed budgets that prioritize corporate tax cuts and private school vouchers over public classrooms. The result?

• Mass teacher attrition
• Growing inequality by zip code
• Underfunded schools across the state

North Carolina used to be a leader in public education. Now we’re near the bottom in per-pupil spending, teacher pay, and support for students.

“Kids over corporations” isn’t radical — it’s the bare minimum.
