The NC National Guard is here to ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of our western North Carolina neighbors. Our Soldiers and Airmen, along with civilian emergency responders, are working 24 hours a day across a dozen counties to get North Carolinians the help they need.

- More than 1,110 North Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are actively supporting this response.

- We have deployed nearly 400 specialized vehicles and aircraft, including hoist and emergency aviation assets and 90 high-water rescue trucks.

- As of today, over 200 force packages have been activated. These specialized teams of Guardsmen, vehicles, and equipment are operating out of 20 strategic locations to efficiently transport food and water, conduct searches and rescues, clear roads of hazardous debris, establish critical communications, and restore infrastructure.

- Our air assets alone have now delivered more than 600,000 pounds of food, water, and supplies by air into western North Carolina.

- North Carolina National Guard air assets have completed 146 flight missions, resulting in the rescue of 538 people and 150 pets.

- Rescue and recovery missions on the ground have rescued more than 450 people across 13 counties.

- Forestry support teams have assisted in clearing over 250 road obstacles, allowing our vehicles to transport supplies further and reach more remote areas.

- Overall, ground supply distribution teams have delivered over 400,000 pounds of commodities of pre-packaged and hot meals, water, and medicine.

More than 10 states have committed Soldiers, Airmen, and rotary wing assets to support the North Carolina National Guard in this response effort. This includes , , , , , , , , , , and .

The North Carolina National Guard is working in tandem with our
NC Emergency Management team, FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency, and local first responders to maximize available resources, respond quickly to requests for help, and ensure continuity of operations throughout impacted areas.

The support of Governor Roy Cooper and The White House has paved the way for additional assistance from the state and federal government agencies. The North Carolina National Guard is rapidly distributing resources to areas that need it most and utilizing North Carolina State Highway Patrol air assets to augment our rescue and reconnaissance missions.

Please avoid traveling towards the area by ground or air. These actions will impede such operations.

After deliberate analysis of Tropical Storm Debby’s potential track, the Command Sergeant Major and I have made the decision to relocate the battalion to home station armories to finish out Annual Training.

While the TUSKHOG Battalion has proven repeatedly that we can handle any conditions thrown at us, the projected rain fall numbers on top of the already saturated Fort Liberty training areas would simply degrade training too much and unnecessarily risk the wellbeing of our Soldiers. Additionally, many of our families and loved ones are located in areas that will be most impacted by the storm and may require our support.

While we were looking forward to some tough maneuver training, by relocating to the armories, we can continue necessary training tasks in hardened structures while posturing the formations to better support both the TUSKHOG families and the communities of south eastern North Carolina should the conditions worsen and we need to react.
