There is a lot to celebrate at Joseph E. Johnson Jr. School, where students, educators, and school leaders are showing what is possible when a school community comes together with a shared commitment to student success.

Recent results released by the Delaware Department of Education highlight Johnson Jr. School as one of those making some of the strongest gains in Grade 3 English language arts proficiency across the state. From 2025 to 2026, Grade 3 ELA proficiency at Joseph E. Johnson Jr. School increased by an impressive 12 percentage points, one of the largest gains reported statewide.

This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of Principal Dr. Booker and the entire Joseph E. Johnson Jr. School staff. Through focused instruction, strong leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to meeting students where they are, the school community continues to create opportunities for students to grow and thrive.

The progress at Joseph E. Johnson Jr. School did not go unnoticed. Governor Matt Meyer and Delaware Secretary of Education Cindy Marten recently visited Johnson to celebrate the progress of students and educators and to see the work happening firsthand. A former teacher himself, Governor Meyer, along with Secretary Marten, toured the school, met with members of the school community, and saw the learning environment that is helping Wildcats succeed.
