🌪️ WMS PBIS Team Recognized for Excellence in Collaboration 🏆

Wilmington Middle School is proud to celebrate our PBIS Team for being awarded the Collaborative Team Excellence Award at the Tri-County Celebration: An Evening of Excellence in Action on May 13, 2026. 👏

This recognition honors teams that demonstrate outstanding shared leadership, teamwork, and collective impact. Our WMS PBIS Team consistently exemplifies these values through their ongoing work to support students and staff.

Each month, the team meets to carefully analyze behavior trends, design meaningful incentive programs, and ensure supports are in place for all learners. From coordinating Student of the Month celebrations to creating targeted supports for students who need additional guidance, their work helps strengthen both school culture and student success.

Their efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in behavior referrals and suspensions, along with a stronger culture of respect, growth, and achievement across WMS. 💪

🏃‍♀️🌪️ Join Us for the 3rd Annual Hurricane 5K Run/Walk! 🏃‍♂️

The Wilmington City Schools Wellness Group and our Cross Country teams are excited to team up once again for the 3rd Annual Hurricane 5K Run/Walk! Whether you are a seasoned runner or simply looking for a fun morning walk with friends, family, or colleagues, we would love to see you there.

📅 Event Details:
📍 Ogden/Elizabeth Looney Memorial Trail (out-and-back course)
🗓 Saturday, June 13, 2026
🕢 Registration and shirt pick-up: 7:45 a.m.
🏁 Race start: 9:00 a.m.

📝 Registration Information:
• Family and Friends Registration: $25
• Register by May 27 to guarantee your free race T-shirt.
• All ages and fitness levels are welcome!

🌪️ WCS Most Valuable Players 🏆🧡🖤

This week, 37 Advanced Placement students recognized their Wilmington City Schools “Most Valuable Players” with heartfelt speeches and certificates honoring staff members who made a meaningful impact on their educational journey.

Throughout the year, students in the AP class focused on argumentative and analytical writing. To close out the year, students used those skills in a unique and personal way by building arguments for why their chosen staff member deserved to be recognized as an MVP within their building or across the district.

Over the last two days, students presented their speeches and essays directly to their nominees, creating memorable moments of appreciation and celebration. 👏

What a powerful way to combine writing, reflection, and gratitude while recognizing the educators and staff members who help make Wilmington special!

☀️🌪️ That’s a Wrap, Wilmington!

Today marked the last day of school for Wilmington City Schools, and what an incredible year it has been! From classrooms and performances to competitions, celebrations, and everyday learning, our students have accomplished so much throughout the year. 👏📚

As we head into summer, we hope all of our students and families enjoy a well-deserved break filled with fun, rest, and new adventures. Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community for another wonderful school year!

Holmes would like to extend a special thank you to Board member Mr. Wiederhold for volunteering during Field Day!

Mr. Wiederhold helped keep the tug-of-war competition running smoothly, and students had an absolute blast throughout the event. We appreciate community members who take the time to support our students and help make special days like this even more memorable. 💪☀️

🎓🌪️ Last Day of Kindergarten for Mrs. McFadden’s Class!

What an incredible year it has been for this special group of students! From learning letters and sounds to building friendships and becoming a class family, these kindergarteners have grown so much throughout the year. 💛

Now, it is time for their next adventure.

First grade, here they come!! 🎉📚

🎓💛 Kindergarten Memories to Treasure 🌪️

Mrs. McFadden’s kindergarten class recently reflected on their favorite memories from Kindergarten 2026, celebrating a year filled with learning, growth, and special experiences together.

Throughout the year, students learned their letters and sounds, practiced addition and subtraction, and built important foundational skills. But as Mrs. McFadden shared, the greatest lesson may have been something even bigger:

“...my favorite thing we learned this year was how to be a class family.” 💛

What a beautiful reminder that learning goes beyond academics and that the connections built in the classroom help make school such a special place. Congratulations to this wonderful group of kindergarteners on an amazing year! 👏

🐍 Preschoolers Get Up Close with Safari Phil! 🌪️

On Monday, Wilmington preschool students welcomed a very special guest, Safari Phil, for an unforgettable hands-on learning experience!

Students had the opportunity to see, feel, and learn about a variety of reptiles and insects, including snakes, lizards, geckos, beetles, tarantulas, and tortoises 🐢🪳🦎

This interactive visit gave students a fun and engaging way to explore the natural world while building curiosity, confidence, and excitement for learning through real-life animal encounters.

What an amazing day of discovery for our youngest learners! 🌟
