We’re lined up and ready to march! 🎉 Look for our crew carrying signs for affordable housing as the Juneteenth Parade rolls through Rodney Square. When you spot us, come say hi. We’ll be tossing out candy and free t-shirts along the route, so grab one while they last!

There's a place for you on the Eastside this weekend. 🔨

🔑Tomorrow (Sat 6/13): Rock the Block kicks off at Bethel AME, 604 N. Walnut St., from 8 to 10:30 AM, then we head to Rodney Square for the Juneteenth parade at 11. Help us reach 100 volunteers. Sign-up at habitatncc.org

The five homes dedicated at Sankofa Place this week are net-zero ready, designed to use far less energy than a typical home.

That standard takes partners who know how to make efficiency real. We're grateful to and Executive Director, Drew Slater, for their role in bringing these homes to net-zero ready standards.

For the partner families who will settle here, net-zero ready means lower utility bills and more predictable monthly costs, the stability that makes homeownership sustainable over decades rather than only at move-in. Every home we raise is a chance to lower the long-term cost of ownership for the family who earns it through sweat equity and a 0% interest mortgage.

🔑Yesterday, Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County celebrated the dedication of Sankofa Place, where five partner families reached a milestone on their path to homeownership.

Dedication marks the step before settlement. Each of these families has invested hundreds of hours of sweat equity and will purchase their net-zero ready home through our 0% interest mortgage program. This is homeownership earned through partnership.

We were honored to be joined by Mayor John Carney, Nicole Waters representing the New Castle County Executive's office, State Representative Franklin Cooke Jr., Leslie Nutter of Southbridge CDC, and Steven Briggs of Wells Fargo, along with many other community leaders and partners.

As we mark 40 years of building in New Castle County, Sankofa Place shows what becomes possible when a community invests in stable, affordable homeownership.

This Thursday, June 11, we’re dedicating four of these net-zero ready homes in Wilmington, celebrating the prospective homebuyers who helped build them from the ground up.

These homes carry months of work, partnership, and determination behind them. Thursday is the moment we get to honor all of it together.

Meet William Fletcher, our Repairs Coordinator and one of the lead engineers behind Rock the Block. 👏

William has been putting in the work across New Castle County, managing our Healthy Communities of Delaware repairs and Energize Delaware repairs, planning and leading our Rock the Block events, and doing it all while finishing his bachelor's degree. We celebrate him this month as one of our Employees of the Month, and the best is still ahead.

Right now, William is gearing up for our biggest one yet!

🎉 Rock the Block, Juneteenth Edition is this Saturday, June 13, and he wants YOU there.

Community cleanup at Bethel AME (604 N. Walnut St.) from 8–10:30 AM, then the Juneteenth parade at Rodney Square at 11 AM, plus a health and safety fair all day. Tools and food are on us. Kids under 12 welcome with an adult.

Join us for our First-Time Homebuyer Seminar on Sunday, June 14 from 1:00–2:30 PM at the Police Athletic League (upstairs Multi-purpose room), 3707 N. Market Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.

You'll learn about Habitat's 0% Mortgage Program, program requirements, the application process, and how homeownership builds lasting wealth. Plus, the seminar falls the day after our Rock the Block community event, so it's a great weekend to get connected with everything happening on the Eastside!
