Common Sense prevails!

The North Carolina Republican Party and Republican National Committee (RNC) prevailed in a critical lawsuit after a Wake County Superior Court reaffirmed a state law allowing Never Residents to vote was unconstitutional.

NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons said of the decision:

"This ruling confirms the state constitution forbids voting by individuals who have never lived in North Carolina. The Court of Appeals and Supreme Court decisively ruled on this previously and the decision reaffirms the common-sense principle only North Carolina citizens can vote in North Carolina elections."

"We are appreciative of Chairman Gruters and the RNC for their partnership to safeguarding the ballot nationwide."

Happy Monday, we hope you had a great weekend.

There has been quite a bit of buzz about this so we thought we'd share this WWAY poll so you could weigh in.

From the website:

"WILMINGTON, N.C. – May 11, 2026 – UNC Health is announcing plans to build a new community hospital on a 62-acre proposed site in New Hanover County, pending regulatory approvals.

Planned for the southeast corner of South 17th Street and Shipyard Boulevard, the site was selected for its accessibility and its geographic infill capacity in serving a rapidly growing region.

The proposed new hospital will offer a comprehensive range of specialties, including emergency care, cardiology, oncology, OBGYN and more."

Ending the week strongly in the Old North State!

On Tuesday, March 12, 2026, NC House Speaker Destin Hall and Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger announced a Budget Framework Agreement. Of course, additional fine tuning is needed before final passage but, progress is being made, signaling an end to NC's temporary continuing resolution marathon.

This budget framework DELIVERS for North Carolina.

β€’ 8% avg teacher raise + $48K starting pay
β€’ 3% raise + bonuses for state employees
β€’ Historic raises for SBI, Highway Patrol & Correctional Officers
β€’ $1,750 bonus for local LEOs
β€’ Income tax dropping to 3.49%

To date, no official document has been posted as negotiations continue but, the full budget--likely working off of SB-257, or a similar appropriations bill--will be fine-tuned before being brought to the floor for a vote.

Some key gains in the education sector too:

β€’ 8% (average) raise for teachers overall, the largest average increase since 2006 and one of the biggest in ~30 years.
β€’ Raises vary by experience: new hires could see up to ~17% increases, while veteran teachers will see ~5.5%.
β€’ Starting base salary increases to $48K before local supplements, making NC's starting teacher salary the highest in the South.
β€’ One-time bonuses: $1,000 for teachers with 16+ years experience; $500 for those with less. (Raises apply to the next fiscal year and are not retroactive.)
β€’ A separate, one-time bonus for the current year applies for teachers/state employees: $1,750 if earning under $65k; $1,000 for those earning above $65k

So, Happy Friday and we thank the Republicans in Raleigh who are working hard on behalf of ALL North Carolinians.
