Hello Wilmington!

June is all about our Maintenance and Repair department, and this week we are highlighting what they do to keep our city running smoothly day and night.

Our M&R team takes charge to repair and replace street signs, as well as making the signs you see all over town. It takes up to two weeks to have a sign replaced, depending on severity. All street signs made in our shop meet regulatory street sign standards. M&R manages traffic control devices and the replacement of traffic lights in the event of an accident.

Mowing is a high priority for the department. They ensure that our ditches and fields stay maintained so motorists can see sight lines, incoming wildlife, and to keep water flowing freely in channels during storms.

M&R is responsible for keeping our roads clear during all major weather events such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, and snowstorms. They work around the clock to keep fallen limbs, mounds of snow, and debris off our roads, ensuring our ability to travel safely.

The M&R shop is equipped with everything needed to complete their job efficiently such as heavy-duty mowing equipment to a printer that cuts the vinyl for our street signs.

Our City Maintenance & Repair Team take great pride in keeping our community clean, safe, and looking its best. From routine upkeep to unexpected repairs, no task is too big or too small. Their hard work and dedication help ensure our city remains a place we’re all proud to call home. Thank you to this incredible team for everything you do for our citizens each and every day!

Hello Wilmington!

Welcome to our June Department Spotlight Series. This month, we're shining a light on the dedicated team behind our Maintenance and Repair Department—a group whose work keeps Wilmington running smoothly every single day.

Our M&R Department is responsible for a lot more than meets the eye. Their work includes maintaining and repairing city streets, alleys and sidewalks, as well as taking care of street signage and signals. They manage snow and ice removal during winter, handle leaf and brush pickup. The team repairs potholes, ensures streetlights are working, and maintains city-owned facilities and equipment, as requested. They also keep our public spaces in top shape, set up and take down banners, prepare for city events by setting up and removing road signs, and operate our mobile stage for community concerts and gatherings.

We’re especially grateful for the crew members who are on-call around the clock, responding to emergencies and working hard to keep our streets safe and accessible. Their commitment—whether it’s a major repair or a small fix—helps make Wilmington a better place to live.

The next time you see our Maintenance and Repair/Street Department team out in the community, please join us in thanking them for their tireless efforts and essential service to our city!

Water Service Disruption and Street Closure- Thursday June 11
North and South Wood St, Gallup St, Sparta Ave, & S. Spring St.

LOCATION – North and South Wood St, Gallup St, Sparta Ave, & S. Spring St, Wilmington, OH

The City of Wilmington announces a road closure for Thursday June 11, on North and South Wood Street (between W. Sugartree and W. Locust Streets) for water infrastructure repairs.

Traffic on W. Main Street will be narrowed to one lane near the Wood Street intersection. There will also be water service disruptions on North and South Wood Streets, Gallup Street, West Sugartree (west of Mulberry Street), South of Locust Street, Sparta Avenue, S. Spring Street, and properties adjacent to Wood Street on W. Locust and W. Main Streets.

This repair may cause additional disruptions in water quality, including discolored water and/or potentially a temporary increase in lead levels in the drinking water. A boil advisory has not been issued at this time.

As a standard practice, the USEPA recommends the following action to reduce possible lead exposure in drinking water:
- If water has not been used for several hours, run the tap until there is a noticeable temperature drop. Then, run water for 30 seconds to 3 minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. This helps flush water that may have contained lead that may have leached from plumbing.
- Use cold water for cooking, drinking, and preparing baby formula. Boiling the water will not reduce lead.
- Clean your faucet aerator regularly.
- For additional information visit drinktap.org or www.epa.gov/safewater/lead

Questions regarding the street closure, water service disruption, and water quality notice may be made to the City Services Office at (937) 382-6509 or to the City Water Plant at (937)-382-3614.
