Happy Labor Day! ⭐️ Today we celebrate all who work hard, and some of us get to enjoy a day of rest from our labors. In that spirit, we celebrate Claribelle, the Zebu cow who lives here at the park with her friend Charlie, a Highland bull. Zebu cattle are working cattle in some parts of the world. They pull carts, plows, and other loads to help farmers and families. They also provide milk and fertilizer as well as companionship. They are even therapy animals! Claribelle does not have to work here at her home, but she does a good job of mothering Charlie and making guests smile! In this photo, you can see her relaxing and resting and giving Charlie a little TLC. 🩷 We hope you are enjoying your Labor Day, whether you are at work, relaxing, or spending the day with us here at the zoo! 🐮

Here is a rare glimpse of Slothy, a two-toed sloth who lives here at the park! Sloths spend most of their time upside-down. Their fur even grows in a reverse pattern, so water can more easily drip off. Sloths keep rainforest ecosystems healthy. They face threats from habitat destruction, power lines, and roads. We hope you’ll visit Slothy in the park’s Rainforest house, and we hope you’ll join us in working to help save wildlife! See you at the zoo! 🦥

Meet the prehensile-tailed porcupine! This is an amazing tree-dwelling creature! Its tail is strong and muscular, and its sharp quills can easily come out in defense! Its vocalizations sound unique and range from soft squeaks to shrill cries. These porcupines plant and prune their rainforest homes by dispersing seeds and foraging. They deserve our protection! This one in particular is affectionately named Stinky and lives at the park. We hope you will visit him and become inspired to save wildlife worldwide! 🐾

Orinoco, the green anaconda, is showing off her belly scales! Her markings are so beautiful! They are as unique as a human fingerprint! They also serve as camouflage for hunting prey. In the water or in the mud, the ventral scale pattern breaks up the snake’s outline, so it is harder to see as it waits to ambush its dinner! In the wild, anacondas face habitat destruction and dangers from hunting. They keep their ecosystems healthy, so we feel they deserve protection! Visit Orinoco in our Herpetarium and join us on a mission to save wildlife everywhere! 🐍

Peafowl are beautiful, and the chicks are really cute, but did you know that they are vital parts of their ecosystem? Peafowl eat insects, snails, mammals, and reptiles, so they keep their homes in balance. They make it so that plant supplies remain at a healthy level. They also disperse seeds, which helps even more. Amazingly, they also eat venomous snakes! We think they are just great to have around, so there are several living here at the park! We hope you’ll join us and a few peafowl for a stroll around the grounds! See you at the zoo! 🦚

Weather permitting, we plan to be open Saturday, Sunday, and Labor Day Monday! We hope you will visit us and the animals! Hours are 10-4, last admission at 3pm, weather permitting. Hours are subject to change if weather necessitates. We will be open weekends until closing for the winter season, so stay tuned! 🐾

Giraffes are naturally curious creatures! They often approach, observe, and investigate new and unfamiliar things that enter their areas. They will even watch lions before deciding whether or not to flee from the predators! Jambo delights visitors here at the park when he walks over to have a closer look at them! Like Jambo, we enjoy meeting new people and learning new things about the world around us! 🦒
