🔥 13.1 Miles. 160 Firefighters. One Mission. ❤️

Three Local 129 firefighters are taking on the Parkway Subaru Battleship Half Marathon in full turnout gear to raise awareness about firefighter cardiovascular health, and we need your help.

Through Running for the Hearts Behind the Helmets, we’re raising money that will go directly back to our Local 129 members by providing quality running shoes and supporting cardiovascular fitness and wellness.

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation changed forever.

We remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who answered the call on September 11, 2001, knowing others needed their help. They climbed while thousands escaped. They did their jobs with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to those they served.

We also remember the thousands of first responders who worked at Ground Zero in the days and months that followed, and those we continue to lose from 9/11-related cancers and illnesses.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11 is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of the sacrifice that comes with this profession and the responsibility we have to carry forward the legacy of those who came before us.

Today, the members of Wilmington Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 129 honor the fallen, their families, and every first responder whose life was forever changed by September 11.

25 years later, we remember them all. We always will.

Never Forget. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Representing Wilmington. Representing North Carolina. Remembering the Fallen.

Wilmington Local 129 President Jordan Pettid is in New York City representing our members, Wilmington firefighters, and North Carolina as we honor the firefighters we lost 25 years ago on September 11, 2001.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11th carries a weight that time will never diminish.

We remember the 343 FDNY members who answered the call that morning and never came home. We remember those we have lost in the years since from illnesses connected to their time at Ground Zero, and the families and firehouse brothers and sisters who continue to carry those losses.

Being here 25 years later is a reminder that time may pass, but their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Firefighters from across the country continue to come together, stand side by side, and honor the legacy of those who gave everything that day.

Local 129 is proud to be here representing Wilmington and North Carolina and standing with our brothers and sisters in the fire service.

25 years later, we remember them all. We always will.

Never Forget. 🇺🇸

A huge THANK YOU to for supporting our initiative by providing three complimentary race entries for our firefighters AND space in the Athlete Village on race day!

When the call comes in, our members go to work. 🚒💪

This video gives a great look at the work Wilmington firefighters perform when an incident requires more than just a routine response. From deploying equipment and operating on the water, to coordinating resources and working together to safely bring the incident under control, our Local 129 members were there getting the job done.

These types of incidents require training, specialized skills, teamwork, and firefighters who are ready to adapt to whatever situation is in front of them. We’re proud of the professionalism and hard work our members displayed throughout this response.

A big thank you to the Wilmington Police Department for putting together this video and capturing the work of our firefighters and public safety partners.

Proud of our members. Proud to serve Wilmington. 🇺🇸🚒

🔥 LOCAL 129 MEMBERS LEADING BEYOND WILMINGTON 🔥

Local 129 is proud to recognize Donald Burns, who recently had the opportunity to teach at Fire-Rescue International (FRI).

Our Local 129 members are involved in much more than what happens inside our own department. From teaching and training to technical rescue, leadership development, state and national organizations, community involvement, and union advocacy, our members continue to represent Wilmington and Local 129 throughout the fire service.

Having one of our own teaching at an event like Fire-Rescue International is a great example of the knowledge, experience, and leadership our members bring to the profession, and an opportunity to share that knowledge with firefighters and fire service leaders from across the country.

Our members aren’t just part of the fire service, they’re helping move it forward.

🔥 LOCAL 129 AT THE IAFF 58TH CONVENTION 🔥

Last week, Local 129 sent two delegates to the IAFF 58th Convention to represent our membership and ensure our Local had a voice in the decisions shaping the future of our union and the fire service.

Throughout the convention, our delegates voted on a wide range of important issues, from changes and legalities within the IAFF Constitution & By-Laws and censorship concerns to firefighter health, safety, and wellness initiatives.

The convention also provided an invaluable opportunity to network with IAFF leaders and members from Locals across the United States and Canada, exchange ideas, learn what other Locals are doing successfully, and build relationships that strengthen Local 129.

Attending events like the IAFF Convention is about more than casting votes. It’s about staying involved, staying informed, building connections, and bringing knowledge and resources back home to our membership.

Local 129 will continue working to make sure our members have a voice, from Wilmington to the international level.

💪 Stronger Together. Union Strong.
