Kindness doesn’t have to be big to matter 💛

A small favor. A kind word. A little extra patience.

That’s how a community grows stronger, not all at once, but one thoughtful moment at a time.

Please join American Legion Wilmette Post 46 and the Wilmette Police and Fire Departments in honoring our veterans on Tuesday, November 11 at 11am at Veterans Park, 1111 Central Avenue (across from the Wilmette Theater).

Scout troops will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and students from Central Elementary school will deliver a musical performance. As part of the ceremony, residents can expect to hear a rifle salute downtown shortly after 11am and should not be alarmed.

🇺🇸This Veterans Day, I'm honored to support those who served as they return to everyday life through ValorFit. This fundraiser was founded by my friend Wendy White, a 12-year Army Veteran herself.

🌟Why fitness matters for Veterans
When military service ends, structure and belonging often disappear too. That loss can leave Veterans feeling isolated — disconnected from the team, routine, and purpose that once defined them.

ValorFit fills that gap by pairing Veterans with fitness facilities and coaches who welcome them as part of a supportive community. Each Veteran receives six months of fully supported fitness programming, helping them rebuild physical health and emotional connection through shared movement.

As ValorFit founder and Veteran Troy Peterson says:
“Every Veteran deserves to feel they still belong to something bigger than themselves. Fitness gives us that connection — it’s not about competition, it’s about coming home.”

🌟Our goal
This Veterans Day, the fitness industry and its supporters are coming together to fund that mission — one Veteran, one community at a time.
We’re raising $5,000 to help ValorFit sponsor Veterans across the country in their six-month programs.

Your donation directly supports:
• Gym memberships and coaching for Veterans
• Program coordination and ongoing mentorship
• Expansion of ValorFit’s network of fitness community partners

Every $156 sponsors a Veteran for one month of programming. Every $936 sponsors a full six-month journey.

How you can help
1. Donate today — any amount makes a real difference in a Veteran’s life.
2. Share this campaign with your fitness community, family, and friends.
3. Honor a Veteran in your life by leaving their name or story in your donation comment.

About ValorFit
Founded by U.S. Army Veteran Troy Peterson, ValorFit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects Veterans to local gyms and fitness mentors to improve physical and mental health through structured movement, support, and belonging.

Join us this Sunday, November 9th, from 2 PM - 3:30 PM, for the premiere of Ouilmette, a stunning new documentary by Sharon Hoogstraten that uncovers the story of her ancestor and the origins of our village.

Through archival research, rich storytelling, and cinematic interpretation, Ouilmette explores themes of settlement, heritage, and identity, inviting us all to reflect on the people and histories that shaped Wilmette.

🎬 Following the film, Sharon Hoogstraten will sit down with Dr. Ann Keating, Professor of History at North Central College, for an engaging discussion and audience questions.

Produced with the historical consultancy of Sharon Hoogstraten (Citizen Potawatomi Nation) and Cole Rattan (Citizen Potawatomi Nation), along with descendants of the Ouilmettes. Featuring Native American music by William Buchholtz, Mark Jourdan, and Elexa Dawson.

Don’t miss this special screening!
