This Monday is the world's first Ides of St. Patrick's Day Party @ O'Westel's. Let's celebrate the stabbing of politicians and ridding the Emerald Isle of snakes in glorious fashion, ie, with Guinness and Jameson. Best use of $50 on a Monday night, ever.

I have been repeatedly asked who I think should replace our dear friend Rich Regovich as Lake County Commissioner. I have given only one answer since I was first asked: Morgan McIntosh.

Morgan embodies the same qualities of service that Rich held. Public service as a means to give back to our community. Service to the public rather than self. No interest in headlines or self-grandeur, but doing what they believe is right. First and foremost this is the content of Morgan’s character that aligns him with filling Rich’s term.

I have known Morgan for about 21 years now. In that time I have seen him grow as a leader. A leader in our party, a leader in Concord, and as a corporate leader - building on the company his father founded and growing it and being more successful than I think Mac could have ever imagined.

I watched Morgan take over a company that he could have sold when his father died, and found another career, like law or becoming a pilot. Instead he rolled up his sleeves and built. And worked. And built. And had to teach himself the equivalency of an MBA on the fly while he learned all the ins and outs of an industry. He did this out of conviction, love for his father’s legacy and of the people, his employees, he was responsible for. Morgan was so successful he was able to build a company that far exceeded what his father had accomplished and eventually sell it and retire at a young age.

When I left the Concord Board of Trustees to become county auditor, we discussed his interest in furthering his public service. He was already a Zoning Commission member. I was frankly surprised by his interest because he had previously said being an elected was not for him.

I believe he could have been appointed to my seat, but he wanted his own path. So he chose to run for Trustee when Connie Luhta retired. He won. Overwhelmingly. He was a reluctant “politician” and ran out of a conviction to serve Concord. I think reluctant elected officials are the best kind. Like Rich when he first joined Willowick City Council.

Since that time Morgan has been a fantastic trustee and leader for our community. He has served as the Lake County Township Association President. He has been involved in many countywide matters like E911 and reformulating the LGF. Always with a steady, logical, and collaborative approach to governance. I can think of no one more ready to hit the ground running as a county commissioner and build on Rich’s successes. I know he will work with Commissioners Beverage and Plecnik and all county elected officials as a team.

I am proud to call Morgan McIntosh my friend because he is a genuinely good person. I will be equally proud to call him Commissioner McIntosh because he will work hard every day for the people of Lake County.
