The Little Lake Firefighters Association Poker Tournament was a success! Thank you to the community members that played and members that watched and had a fun time looking through our photo albums and inquiring about our muster truck! Shout out to Bryan and Amber Valente from Brooktrails Fire for spending the day and night assisting us with staffing our event! Shout out to Ashley Baldwin and Shailyn Brewer for assisting us at our registration table while the firefighters went on a call BEFORE the start of the tournament and keeping our books straight throughout the night! I Captain So definitely appreciate you both! A huge shout out to Andrew Hosford and SpareTime Supply for allowing us the use of their facility to host the tournament and having everything necessary to host a tournament! And the results are in!

The Stadium is set at 300 E Commercial St. at SpareTime! Tonight Little Lake Firefighters Association is hosting a Poker Tournament to raise funds for much needed repairs to the muster truck (a community event favorite) and general funds for other events the Association hosts like our Haunted Firehouse! Registration starts at 4pm and Game play starts at 5pm! We hope to see you there!

As summer draws closer the Willits High Scrubs and Medical class start to put the skills and information that they learned from Little Lake Fire to the test. Running a simulated bleacher collapse where they must assess and triage their fellow students based on limited injury reports. They successfully implemented a 3:1 rope rescue system and learned that “a mouse can move a mountain”! In the final week of school, some of the students will be participating with Captain So at the Brookside Elementary School Water day where students learn, it’s not just about responding to emergencies, engaging the community in normal life is just as if not more important for a first responder to get out and learn about their community and those who live in it!

Tonight Little Lake Fire along with Ridgewood Ranch and CalFire MEU trained on Over the Embankment training. 3 “different” fire departments with 3 different techniques and technology to accomplish the same type of task. Each method has its pros and cons but how we overcome challenges and obstacles here on the training ground makes us more proficient and efficient out in the real world! If plan A fails, someone better know how to get plan B and/or plan C into play and keep on moving!

Firefighters from Little Lake Fire, Ukiah Fire, Hopland Fire, Brooktrails Fire, Members of MedStar, hospital staff, dispatchers, helicopter crews, and Law Enforcement all gathered today for Survivors Dinner.

Today the Willits High School Scrubs and Medical Students got hands on training with different splinting methods and equipment. They also took turns working as a group securing “patients” to a back board, scoop board, and a KED. They learned that Communication is KEY with each other AND the patient! Not only does the crew NEED to know what exactly to do but EXPLAINING to the patient what is going on and reassuring them throughout the process helps keep the patient calm. Thank you Ashley Roach and Harry So for dedicating time to helping these students put the knowledge to work!

Every school year for the past few years, our department partners with the Willits High School Scrubs and Medical Terminology Class and teach the students real world practical lifts, carries, and drags. We also toss in some devices and aids that help us with patient moving such as the mega mover and stair chair! The students also practice using a live fire, fire extinguisher prop. It’s always great having these students visit the firehouse and get some real hands on training. They also get to experience maneuvering patients through a tight corridor and practice handing the patient to other students. It really opens their eyes to what type of open and tight conditions we deal with. Hopefully they go home and walk through their own homes and notice if during an emergency how easy or difficult it is for them to move through the house towards the exit!
