Public Works Director – Full Time
Town of Williston, South Carolina
Reports To: Mayor and Town Council / Town Administrator

Position Summary
The Town of Williston is seeking a full-time, hands-on Public Works Director to oversee and perform daily public works operations in a very small-town setting. This position serves as a working supervisor responsible for maintaining town infrastructure, operating equipment, supervising a small staff or part-time employees, and ensuring compliance with South Carolina regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Perform and oversee maintenance of town streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and drainage systems
• Operate and maintain town equipment including trucks, mowers, tractors, loaders, and hand tools
• Oversee and assist with operation and maintenance of water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems (if applicable)
• Maintain town-owned buildings, grounds, and parks.
• Perform seasonal duties including mowing, leaf collection, storm response, and emergency repairs
• Supervise and work alongside a public works staff
• Coordinate with contractors, utilities, county agencies, and state regulators
• Maintain required records, inspections, and regulatory documentation
• Respond to emergencies and infrastructure failures after hours as needed

Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in public works, utilities, construction, or municipal maintenance
• Supervisory or lead-worker experience required
• Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in all weather conditions

South Carolina License & Certification Requirements
• Valid South Carolina Driver’s License (required)
• Distribution Licenses are preferred, must obtain water and wastewater license in a specific timeframe.
• Must maintain all required certifications and continue education as required by the State of South Carolina

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Working knowledge of streets, drainage, utilities, and general maintenance
• Ability to operate and maintain small-town public works equipment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Working Conditions
• Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing, and equipment operation
• On-call availability for nights, weekends, and emergency situations

Salary & Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include retirement, paid leave, and other benefits as provided by the Town of Williston.

Each picture turned in will be displayed in the Town Hall Foyer on the "Kid's Corner" board.

Please ensure to include a way to contact the child's gaurdian.

A hard copy of the month's coloring sheet can be picked up at the Town Hall.

Position Summary:

The Town of Williston is seeking a dependable and hardworking team member to join our Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of manual labor and maintenance tasks to support the operation and upkeep of town infrastructure, including water systems, public facilities, streets, and grounds. The position requires participation in an on-call rotation schedule and emergency response.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Public Works & Water System Support
• Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of municipal water lines
• Respond to water main breaks and service line issues
• Operate hand and power tools for excavation, pipe repair, and restoration
• Assist in locating underground utilities
• Perform hydrant flushing and basic system inspections
Town Maintenance
• Perform general maintenance of town buildings, parks, streets, and public spaces
• Conduct street patching, signage repair, snow removal, and debris cleanup
• Maintain town vehicles and equipment
• Mow, trim, and maintain public grounds
• Assist with special projects and seasonal work as assigned
On-Call & Emergency Response
• Participate in scheduled on-call rotation, including nights and weekends
• Respond promptly to emergencies such as water leaks, storm damage, or public safety hazards
• Operate equipment during emergency situations

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Experience in public works, construction, plumbing, or related field preferred
• Ability to operate light and medium-duty equipment (backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of water distribution systems preferred
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift 75+ pounds and perform physically demanding labor

Job Title: Office Clerk/ Adminstrative Assistant

Employee Type: Full -time with limited hours 7:30-2:30

Job Summary:
The Town of Williston is seeking a dependable and hardworking Office Clerk to join our Administrative Team. The office clerk works under the administrative direction of the administrative team.

This position performs a variety of clerical duties to maintain the operations of the town. The duties consist of but are not limited to business licensing, answering town phones and transferring calls to staff, collection of payments for utility billing and business licensing, creating daily deposits, filing various paperwork, and maintaining work orders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To assist in maintaining the operations of the office.
Assist in collection of payments for utility bills, assist in collection of payments for business licenses, processing payments for accounts payable, inputting payroll, assisting in maintaining the operating budget alongside the Town administrator, and maintaining the upkeep of town records.

Qualifications:
The applicant must have:
Highschool diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Candidate must be eligible to become a Notary Public or already possess a Notary Public License.
Candidate must pass a background check and a drug test prior to hiring.

Work Schedule:
7:30am-2:30pm
