Over the past several months, we’ve experienced a significant reduction in available staff. Earlier in the fiscal year, the library lost three part-time positions due to budget changes. That loss required us to adjust our Friday hours from 9 a.m.–6 p.m. to 9 a.m.–5 p.m. More recently, one full-time staff member and an additional part-time staff member left for other job opportunities, which further affected our ability to safely and effectively staff all public service hours. This resulted in the need to temporarily close on Saturdays beginning 9/5/26.
We have been actively working to rebuild our team. The full-time position was posted previously, but had to be placed on hold during a town-wide hiring freeze. That freeze has now been lifted, and we are moving forward with interviews. Once we are able to bring new staff on board and fully train them, we will restore Saturday hours as soon as possible.
We know how important Saturday access is for many of our patrons, especially families, students, and those whose schedules make weekends the best time to visit. Please know that this change is temporary, made only to ensure we continue providing a safe and high-quality experience during all open hours.
