At last week’s Township Council meeting, the Monroe Township Police Department was proudly presented with our Certificate of Reaccreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP). This marks the fourth re-accreditation (5 total) for our department, a status first achieved in 2014! Program Director Mr. Harry Delgado informed Mayor and Council that only a very small percentage of New Jersey Law Enforcement agencies have achieved this status for this length of time.

Accreditation is a voluntary and rigorous process that requires a law enforcement agency to demonstrate compliance with established professional standards and best practices. The process includes a comprehensive review of department policies, procedures, operations, training, and accountability measures.

Earning reaccreditation reflects our department’s continued commitment to professionalism, accountability, transparency, and providing the highest level of service to our community.

We are proud to once again achieve this recognition and thank all of our officers and staff whose daily efforts help MTPD maintain these professional standards.

Today, the Monroe Township Police Department pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honors the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and all who answered the call.

Twenty-five years ago today, three Monroe Township Police officers responded to Ground Zero as members of the Gloucester County Emergency Response Team to assist with recovery efforts:

Retired Detective Sergeant Greg Wolfe
Retired Sergeant Brian Reeve

We thank them for their service and remember a time when our nation came together as one in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Last night, the Monroe Township Police Department was proud to hold a Promotional and Swearing-In Ceremony before Mayor and Council, recognizing several members of our department as they take the next step in their careers.

As a result of recent retirements within the department, the ceremony formally recognized both yesterday’s promotions and also members who had previously assumed their new ranks:

Promoted to Lieutenant

• John Hennessy
• Donald Darcangelo

Promoted to Sergeant
• John Vanleer
• Andrew Sharp
• William Pintozzi
• RJ Heffner

The evening also included the ceremonial swearing-in of three of our newest police officers. These officers were hired earlier this year and have since successfully graduated from the police academy:

***Upcoming Road Closure****
On Thursday 9/10 and Friday 9/11, Sicklerville Road will be closed to Westbound traffic (from Winslow Township) between the hours of 7:00am to 3:00pm due to roadway construction. This closure will be between Radix Road and Princeton Road. Detours will be in place and officers will be on scene to assist local traffic.

***MEDIA RELEASE*** Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on September 4, 2026***
Case # 26-36533

On September 4, 2026 at approximately 12:06 AM, MTPD responded to the area of S. Black Horse Pike (US 322) and E. Malaga Road for a motor vehicle crash. A white Maserati, operated by a 54-year-old Franklin Township man, was traveling west on S. Black Horse Pike. A red Toyota, operated by a 33-year-old male from Woodstown, was exiting Walmart on to S. Black Horse Pike. The Toyota entered the S. Black Horse Pike and merged into the lane of travel and initiated a lane change into the inside westbound lane of travel. The front of the Maserati impacted the rear of the Toyota. The force and direction of impact caused the Maserati to roll over numerous times, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

Despite lifesaving efforts by police and emergency personnel, the driver of the Maserati succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and passenger from the Toyota were transported to Cooper Trauma Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision is being investigated by Sgt. John Van Leer #7123 of the M.T.P.D. Traffic Safety Bureau. Any witnesses are asked to contact Sgt. Van Leer by phone at 856-728-9800 ext. 583 or by email at [email protected].

Commercial Motor Vehicle Crash involving School Bus on September 3, 2026

On September 3, 2026, the Monroe Township Police Department responded to the area of 730 N. Tuckahoe Road (CR 555) for a reported crash involving multiple vehicles. Upon arrival, officers determined that five vehicles were involved, including two commercial dump trucks and a school bus. The preliminary investigation determined that a commercial dump truck was traveling northbound on N. Tuckahoe Road, approaching traffic that had stopped for an uninvolved school bus. The dump truck driver failed to observe the stopped traffic and struck the rear of a passenger vehicle occupied by one adult and three juveniles.

The force of the collision pushed that vehicle into another passenger vehicle occupied by an adult female. That vehicle was then pushed into the rear of a school bus occupied by nine juveniles and two adults. The school bus subsequently struck the rear of a second commercial dump truck, whose driver had begun moving and attempted to avoid the collision occurring behind it. One juvenile became trapped in the rear seat of the passenger vehicle and was extricated by fire department personnel.

As a result of the crash, 12 juveniles and two adults were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment. All individuals have since either been released or remain in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The commercial carrier associated with the two dump trucks is cooperating with the investigation. The crash remains under investigation, and motor vehicle complaints are pending at this time.

The Monroe Township Police Department congratulates Lieutenant Eric S. Dare on his retirement, effective September 1, 2026, following nearly three decades of dedicated service to our department and community.

Lt. Eric S. Dare began his career with MTPD as a police dispatcher in November 1997 before becoming a police officer and attending the Gloucester County Police Academy in March 2003.

Throughout his career, Lt. Dare served our department in numerous roles, including Police Explorer Advisor, Field Training Officer, TAC Officer, and a member of the Professional Standards Unit. He also dedicated years supporting his fellow officers through the Monroe Township Police Officers Association, serving as both Co-Chairman and Chairman.

Over the years, Eric has been a valued friend and co-worker to many within our department. His dedication, experience, and commitment to MTPD have left a lasting impact on our agency and the people he worked alongside.

Eric, thank you for your many years of service and dedication to the Monroe Township community. We wish you and your family many years of good health, happiness, and a long and enjoyable retirement. You’ve earned it!

🎒📚 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! ✏️🚌

It’s officially the first day of school! The Monroe Township Police Department wishes all of our students, teachers, administrators, and school staff a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

👮‍♂️ Our school officers are ready, too! All of our School Resource Officers have been sworn back in and are ready to welcome students for another great year. We are also excited to announce that Officer Tom Bonsall has returned to MTPD following his retirement and will serve as a School Resource Officer at Williamstown High School! We’re happy to have Ofc. Bonsall back and know he will be a great addition to our school safety team.

As everyone settles back into the routine, please remember to slow down in school zones, watch for children at bus stops and crosswalks, and be patient with our school buses and increased morning traffic. 🚸🛑
