Martin County Explorer Post 911

Martin County Explorer Post 911 Law Enforcement Exploring Program. Exploring is a division of the Boy Scouts of America-Learning for Life.

Chartered by the Martin County Sheriff's office, Law Enforcement Exploring Post 911 has provided an educational resource for young males and females that are interested in law enforcement as a future profession. Started under direction the Sheriff Mac Manning, later under direction of Sheriff Neil Elks; Martin County Sheriff's Office picked up Explorer Post 911 after Sheriff Neil Elks of Pitt Coun

ty dropped the program, the Post is now under the direction of Sheriff Dan Gibbs of Martin County. Volunteer officers, dispatchers, and clerks provide training and supervision on station and in the community. A very large percentage of explorers determine that law enforcement is a profession worth pursuing, and go on to study criminal justice and law enforcement in college. Martin County Sheriff's Office explorers will grow to become police officers, state troopers, federal agents, military police, business persons, Deputy Sheriff and productive members of the community.

04/30/2026

After 12 years and three Explorers being hired into the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Explorer Post 911 (youth program) will no longer be chartered through the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Robinson will not recharter Explorer Post 911 for the year 2026. On February 26, 2026, Sheriff Robinson finally sent an email saying he would not recharter the post because he did not understand the program or the bookkeeping. Advisor Snider of Post 911 sent in the recharter request back in November 2025 and has also reached out for a meeting to explain the program and bookkeeping and received no response. Sheriff Robinson did say the Sheriff’s Office would continue to be supportive of the Post.
All the hard work the youth has put into planning the Post 2026 year will still move forward. The Post has a new chartering organization.

Thank You
