As the Sheriff of Martin County, it was an honor to address the attendees at last night’s NRA Banquet. I appreciate the opportunity to speak about the importance of the Second Amendment and the responsibility that comes with exercising our constitutional rights.

I firmly support the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Responsible gun ownership, proper training, and safe firearm handling are essential to preserving these freedoms while helping to keep our communities safe.

As your Sheriff, I remain committed to protecting and defending the constitutional rights of the citizens of Martin County while continuing to promote responsible firearm ownership, education, and public safety. Thank you to the NRA and everyone who attended for allowing me to be part of this important event and discussion.

Updated information Regarding Vehicle Pursuit

Vehicle Pursuit Ends Safely; Three Children Protected

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 10:50 p.m., deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a Dodge Caravan after observing the vehicle being operated in a reckless manner.

The driver refused to stop and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit that continued into Edgecombe County. During the pursuit, deputies learned that three children were inside the vehicle along with the driver.

Given the presence of the children, deputies remained focused on bringing the incident to a safe conclusion while protecting the lives of everyone involved. When an opportunity presented itself, deputies safely intervened and brought the pursuit to an end in the area of 3818 Chinquapin Road, Tarboro.

The three children were safely removed from the vehicle and no injuries were reported among the occupants of the Dodge Caravan. While no major injuries occurred, a Martin County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle sustained damage during the incident.

“The safety of these children was our highest priority throughout this event,” said Sheriff Drew Robinson. “I am proud of the professionalism, restraint, and sound decision-making demonstrated by our deputies as they worked to bring this situation to a safe conclusion.”

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is grateful that this incident ended without serious injury and remains committed to protecting the citizens of our community, especially those who are unable to protect themselves.

Pursuit Ends with No Injuries

Late tonight, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit involving a mother who was fleeing with her three young children inside the vehicle.

From the very beginning of this incident, our primary concern was the safety and well-being of the children. When deputies were presented with an opportunity to safely intervene at a slow speed, they acted quickly and decisively to stop the vehicle and secure the children, ensuring they were removed from a dangerous situation.

Sgt. Shaun Cratt, Deputy Molly Zedd, and Deputy Camren Peed demonstrated exceptional judgment, professionalism, and courage as they took the actions necessary to protect the children and bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Although our patrol vehicles sustained damage, deputies quickly secured the juveniles and made sure they were safe.

This incident serves as a reminder of the commitment our deputies have to protecting those who cannot protect themselves. Every day, the men and women of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office make decisions with the safety of our citizens; especially our children, as their highest priority.

Thankfully, this incident ended without any serious injuries to the children, the driver, or responding deputies. While several Martin County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles sustained damage during the incident, those vehicles can be repaired. The fact that everyone went home safely tonight is what matters most.

We are grateful for the professionalism and dedication displayed by our deputies and thankful for an outcome that prioritized the safety of the children above all else.

SRO Williams Goes Above the Call of Duty and Takes the Plunge

As students celebrated the last day of school at South Creek Elementary, School Resource Officer Mackinsey Williams was willing to “take the plunge” in the dunking booth to help create a fun and memorable experience for the students.

At the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, our School Resource Officers work hard each day to build positive relationships with students. Those connections help create trust, open communication and a safer school environment for everyone. Events like this may seem simple, but they play an important role in showing students that their SROs are approachable, caring and invested in their success.

Thank you, SRO Williams, for your dedication, positive attitude and willingness to step outside the box to bring smiles, laughter and lasting memories to the students of Martin County. We are proud of the work you do each day to make a difference in the lives of our young people.
