As part of Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, on March 18, 2026, Eaton, Calhoun, Clinton, and Ingham Counties and the City of Lansing will do a TEST of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. This test will be sent to all cell phones in the four counties listed and the City of Lansing. The test will occur at 12:59 pm, ahead of the 1:00 pm Voluntary Statewide Tornado Drill.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 (𝐖𝐄𝐀)?
Think of getting an Amber Alert or Tornado Warning from the National Weather Service sent straight to your cell phone. There is a distinct alert tone, the tone repeats multiple times in quick succession, and most phones vibrate intensely along with the sound.

And you don't need to tweak anything on your phone to get this! While we occasionally send test alerts that would require you to change a setting if you wanted to receive (and we don’t recommend since they really intend to test the backbone and not phones) this will go out using the same route a “real” warning takes. But it will still be labeled a “TEST” to avoid any confusion.

It's the first Saturday of the month, so the sirens you hear at 1pm today are part of our monthly test... In an actual emergency, they could be triggered for:

Tornadoes
Extreme damaging winds
Evacuation notices
..and more... They are simply OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS! Consult your Smart911/RAVE alert in a true disaster.

Officer John Pelong helped out with a reunion of one of our U.S. Army Soldiers and his parents. Dave and Lara got to reunite with their son Carson after his year long deployment to Korea. WPD was glad to be there for it.

On 2-24-26 at approximately 7:40pm, our Officers assisted the Meridian Township Police Department with a crash that occurred at Grand River/Zimmer Rd. A witness reported the driver ran from the scene on foot to the East. The suspect was spotted by WPD Officers at the North end of Winding River Drive. Several MTPD Officers and WPD set up a perimeter. A Michigan State Police helicopter (Trooper 6) also responded and located the suspect in a wooded area. With the assistance of MSP Trooper 6, Officers took the suspect into custody.

Great teamwork by law enforcement in locating/apprehending the suspect.

The Williamston Police Department was honored to participate in this Event. Officer Greg Francis, Officer Dave Coleman, and Chief were able to bring a bit of happiness to kids at the Hospital.

We had a great time this evening at the 24th Annual Shop With a Hero Event at the Mason Meijer. The event is hosted by the Ingham County Sheriffs Office and Mason Meijer. Pictured are Officers Jeff Ruttman, John Pelong, Dave Coleman, Jonathan Helms, Tyler Douglas, and Chief.

We participated in the No Senior without Christmas Event today. This marks the 25th year that we have had the honor of delivering Christmas Care packages to area Senior Citizens. Pictured is Deputy Chief Drent of NIESA, Officer Pelong, Officer Douglas, and Chief.
