American Rescue Workers-Williamsport

American Rescue Workers-Williamsport American Rescue Workers (ARW) is a faith based non-profit organization providing hunger and homelessness prevention services in Lycoming County since 1934.

ARW cares holistically for men, women, and children who find themselves in an emergency situation or a homeless crisis by providing shelter and social services. The Williamsport American Rescue Workers is a part of the national ARW organization whose headquarters is also located in Williamsport. Annually, ARW provides shelter to over 1,100 homeless men, women and children. 76,000 meals are served to shelter residents as well. A 3-day emergency supply of groceries is distributed to over 1,000 families per month and over $350,000 in emergency rental and utility assistance is given out to help keep families in their homes and from avoiding the homeless crisis. American Rescue Workers helps members of the community reach self-sufficiency through work programs, shelter, food, case management, and spiritual guidance. American Rescue Workers operates 10 Thrift Stores across Central Pennsylvania, the Social Service Center, three shelters for men, women, and children, and American Rescue Workers Community Church. ARW is primarily funded through the resale and recycling of donated goods in our 10 Thrift Store locations. Other critical annual funding comes from grants, as well as generous foundation, individual, and corporate donors.

Putting stability back within reach. 💙

For men experiencing homelessness, finding stability can feel a long way off. Our Fresh Start Program provides more than a safe place to stay—it gives men the opportunity to rebuild through work therapy, case management, financial skills, employment, savings, and ultimately, permanent housing.

It’s about helping each man take one step at a time toward independence and a true fresh start.

🌻 FUN FACT FRIDAY: Meet Maezie! 🌻

If you’ve ever called or stopped by American Rescue Workers, there’s a good chance you’ve been greeted by Maezie! But today, we thought we’d let you get to know the person behind the front desk a little better. 💛

🩰 She was a ballet dancer for 14 years.
📖 She studied Pastoral Leadership at Hillsong Bible College in Arizona.
💍 She got married on a secluded beach in Acadia National Park.
🎈 One of her favorite memories is taking a hot air balloon ride across the desert.
🥾 One of her favorite hikes she’s completed is the Skyline Trail Loop at Mount Rainier.
✍️ One of her biggest dreams is to someday write and publish several Christian books.

A few other fun facts about Maezie:

🌻 Favorite flower: Sunflowers
☕ Favorite drink: Chai latte — HOT. Always hot.
🍂 Favorite season: Fall
📚 Favorite author: Bob Goff
🛍️ Favorite store: Anthropologie…although thrifting definitely gives it some competition!

From ballet and mountain hikes to hot air balloons and dreams of becoming a published author, there’s a lot more to Maezie than the friendly voice answering our phones each day!

We’re thankful to have her as part of the American Rescue Workers family. 💛

Putting stability back within reach. 💙

For Jenn Black, our Shelter Director, that’s what the Fresh Start Program is all about.

Jenn oversees the program and walks alongside men as they work toward rebuilding their lives. From the day they enter our doors to the day they’re ready to move into a place of their own, she helps provide the structure, accountability, resources, and encouragement they need to keep moving forward.

Fresh Start is more than providing a bed. It’s helping men build skills, find employment, save money, secure housing, and believe that a different future is possible.

And Jenn gets to have a front-row seat to every fresh start. 💙
