Juneteenth (June 19) is the one of the oldest known commemorations related to the abolition of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth National Independence Day was signed into law as a national holiday on June 17, 2021. Juneteenth celebrates the date of June 19, 1865, when enslaved people of African descent located in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from the slavery system in the United States.

Hancock’s Monterey House provides 24 one-bedroom apartments on the site of the former Hotel Hancock in downtown Hancock, Maryland. The architecture of the former hotel inspired the design of today’s Monterey House, which was built in 2005.
Conveniently located on Main Street, Monterey House is across the street from the C&O Canal towpath and just two blocks away from the Senior Nutrition Center. Golf courses, local parks, and historic sites are also nearby.
