MONDAY: A portion of the southbound lane of South Henry Street will close as City of Williamsburg Landscape crews remove an unhealthy tree.

The work will take place between 8:30 and noon Monday, Sept. 14. Traffic will shift into the northbound lane.

Flaggers will be on site to direct vehicles and assist drivers through the work zone.

Motorists should be prepared for a change in traffic patterns and proceed with caution.

City Council voted unanimously on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, to authorize the city manager to enter into a comprehensive agreement with Hourigan Construction Corporation to build a new 50,000-square-foot library on the same block as the current downtown Scotland Street library.

The current construction timeline puts completion of the new library in Summer 2028.

Construction has begun on the Williamsburg African American Heritage Trail! Our Public Works crews are hard at work on the secondary trailhead near Scotland Street & Prince George Street, which is set to open next month. Soon, construction on the primary trailhead near Lafayette Street and Virginia Avenue will begin, with a grand opening planned for next year!

REMINDER: City of Williamsburg offices are closed today, Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.

Waller Mill Park follows normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Garbage collection is delayed by one day; Monday collection is rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, and Tuesday collection is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9. Recycling is not scheduled for collection.

Update: The railroad crossing is now open.

The North Henry Street railroad crossing near Lafayette Street is closed for repairs to the gate arm.

Drivers should find an alternate route to avoid the railroad crossing.

The road will remain closed until repairs to the gate arm are completed, which is expected to be today.

TODAY: The northbound lane of Virginia Avenue will close while the City of Williamsburg's Water & Sewer Division repairs a sewer line on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.

Work will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the road is expected to reopen by 2 p.m.

Flaggers will be on site to assist drivers through the work zone as necessary.

Our area is under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Thursday. If you need a cool, air-conditioned space during this heat, consider Quarterpath Recreation Center (202 Quarterpath Road) or the downtown Williamsburg Library (515 Scotland St.) during normal business hours.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for inland portions of central and eastern Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. Heat indices near and above 105° are expected today and tomorrow. This advisory is in effect through 8 pm Thursday.
