The Whitley County Detention Center is aware of the low-pressure water issue currently affecting the facility. Staff have been in contact with the City of Williamsburg, which is actively working to identify and correct the problem.

At this time, all essential operations within the detention center remain functional.

Jailer Jason Wilson and the Whitley County Detention Center are proud to partner with the Cumberland River Regional Prevention Center. As part of their Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) the Prevention Center delivered resource bags to pregnant and/or parenting women preparing for reentry.

Through this partnership, these women are just a few that will receive these resource bags which include overdose prevention supplies, health education materials, crisis support information, and connections to local treatment and recovery services. By providing these resources prior to release, our goal is to help reduce risk, increase awareness, and support the optimal health and well-being of individuals and their families.

We are grateful for partnerships that help strengthen recovery, support families, and build healthier communities.

Whitley County Jailer Jason Wilson and the Whitley County Detention Center staff coordinated with the Reentry and Employment Branch of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, in partnership with the Kentucky Office of Adult Education and Cumberlands Workforce Board, to offer the Forklift University course at no cost to the county.

All participants successfully earned forklift operator certification. Following certification, partners from Goodwill Kentucky met with these inmates to build job readiness skills and will continue supporting them as they prepare for employment upon release. These partners also work closely with local employers such as AISIN Automotive Casting and Staffmark to connect individuals with job opportunities that align with their newly acquired skills. These employers are guaranteed to connect with these individuals after completing the training.

Reentry is a gradual process of rebuilding one’s life, making consistent progress and remembering that your past does not dictate your future.

Jailer Jason Wilson and Staff are incredibly grateful for the impact that church services have at the Whitley County Detention Center. Offering services multiple times each week gives individuals the opportunity to reflect, grow, and find hope during a challenging season of life.

These services are more than just gatherings — they are moments of encouragement, accountability, and spiritual renewal. For many, they provide comfort, guidance, and a reminder that their story isn’t over. Faith-based programs like these help foster positive change, strengthen character, and build a sense of community within the facility.

It’s inspiring to see how consistent support and access to worship can truly make a difference for those in need. Everyone deserves a chance at hope, healing, and a better path forward. ❤️

While receiving off-site medical care at Baptist Health Corbin, an inmate, Misty Phillips, assaulted a female detention officer and fled into a nearby wooded area. Immediate response from local agencies resulted in the area being quickly secured. A perimeter was established, and shortly thereafter, the inmate was apprehended without further incident.

The detention center places the highest priority on the safety of staff, the public, and those in our custody. We appreciate the swift response and assistance of our partnering law enforcement agencies, whose coordinated efforts ensured a rapid and safe resolution.

We greatly appreciate the following agencies for their swift, dedicated response and assistance:
