🚫🚬 Think Before You Flick It, Wilkes County 🚫🚬
The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office and Cleanup Wilkes County want to remind everyone that tossing cigarette butts out of your vehicle window is more than just littering—it’s dangerous, costly, and harmful to our community.
🔥 Fire
A lit cigarette thrown onto dry grass or leaves can quickly spark a wildfire. Especially during dry or windy conditions, this small act can lead to major damage—putting lives, homes, and our first responders at risk.
🌎 Environmental Impact
Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world. They are made of plastic fibers that do not biodegrade and can take years to break down. These toxins seep into our soil and waterways, harming wildlife and polluting the beautiful landscapes we all call home.
🚓 It’s Against the Law
Littering is illegal in North Carolina and can result in fines and penalties. More importantly, it shows a lack of respect for our community.
âś… Do Your Part
• Use an ashtray in your vehicle
• Properly dispose of cigarette waste
• Help keep Wilkes County clean and safe
It only takes a second to make the right choice—and that choice can prevent a fire, protect our environment, and keep our county looking its best.
Let’s work together to keep Wilkes County safe, clean, and fire-free.
