As the sun sets on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost on that tragic day and the sacrifices that must never be forgotten.o''
Today, firefighters from Wilkesboro, Broadway, and Moravian Falls gathered at Wilkesboro Methodist Church to ring the church bells 343 times—one solemn ring in honor of each FDNY firefighter who gave their life in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years have passed, but their courage, service, and sacrifice remain with us. We remember the 343 firefighters who answered their final alarm, all of the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, the thousands of innocent lives lost, and the families who have carried that loss for a quarter century.
As the final bell echoes and the sun sets on this 25th anniversary, may we always remember the courage shown that day and the unity that followed.
343 bells. 343 firefighters. 25 years later, we still remember.
We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Last night, September 9, 2,977 drones rose over New York Harbor and formed the Twin Towers at full architectural scale.

The lights first gathered into a helix, swirling upward before assembling into the shape of the towers.

There were exactly 2,977 lights, one for every person killed in the September 11 attacks.

The installation, called “2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor,” was created for the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and shaped with input from victims’ families, survivors and first responders. Among those involved was retired FDNY firefighter Tim Brown, who lost close friends on 9/11. Three of the lights honored firefighters Chris Blackwell, Terry Hatton and Michael Lynch.

The towers eventually broke apart back into individual lights.

We are proud of the strong work by our Towns Fire and Police! The countless hours of training, preparation, and commitment to their community of Wilkesboro and our neighbors often goes unnoticed. Team work between all Departments and our Wilkesboro Police is amazing. Hours of training, preparation of equipment, and commitment to run out of a dry building into a horrible storm to help a neighbor is just the type of people our community has in our public servants!
Our prayers and thoughts are with the victim and family involved.

A Wilkes County man, trapped in a burning home, told dispatchers that fire was blocking the only exit and he could not get out. Fire crews were able to get him out and to the hospital.
