CUB CREEK COMMUNITY GARDEN
WEEKLY UPDATE

Good afternoon Cub Creek Gardeners, we have some information we would like to share with you about the garden.

All the rain we had doesn’t seem to have harmed the beds. We have only noticed a few wilted plants.

We are still finding squash beetles and eggs. Please just smash them and dispose of leaf (not in compost) infested with eggs.

Please keep your garden plot and surrounding pathways free of w**ds at all times. Each w**d produces thousands of seeds which no gardener wants drifting into his or her garden or path to steal nutrients, sun light and moisture. Use mulches and ground covers to help reduce w**ding time and effort.

If repairs are needed on garden tools please leave the item in the shed at the garden and notify Samantha Lusk so items can be repaired. You can contact her at 336-651-7335 or
by email [email protected] .

Please remember to weigh and record all produce harvested. The total weight of produce harvested is a measure of garden success.

We thank you so much for your cooperation as this is a community garden shared by many, and we all want to be considerate to our neighbors. Happy gardening and please let us know if you
have any concerns.

Thought for the day!

On Saturday, Aug 19th, Gary Blevins did a fantastic demonstration on planting a winter garden. Spinach, kale, collards, mustard, turnips, carrots, radishes, beets, broccoli, cabbage and mixed lettuces were discussed. A hands-on planting demonstration was informative and taught participants unique methods for band-planting or French Intensive Gardening. We had a lively discussion of seed selection, space maximizing, watering frequency, space vs cost analysis and other ideas were shared. Thank you, Gary Blevins, for a fun and interesting presentation. And thanks for all who came to this first gardening demonstration at Cub Creek Community Garden.
