WILKES-BARRE TWP. — The Wyoming Valley Mall is finally getting a facelift.

09/14/2026

A deep-pocketed developer seeks to transform the Wyoming Valley Mall by demolishing roughly half of the property to establish a stand-alone anchor tenant in the existing parking lot.

PENNSYLVANIA ROADSIDE HISTORY: If you’ve ever driven Route 309 through Wilkes-Barre Township, you probably know Three-O-Nina, the giant cow that’s been watching over the highway since 1967.

She was originally placed outside Gorman’s Dairy after another giant cow being transported through the area reportedly caused drivers to slow down so much it created a traffic jam. That was enough to convince the dairy to order one of its own.
A public contest was then held to name her, and “Three-O-Nina” won, a play on words for Route 309. The person who submitted the winning name even received a color television.

Nearly 60 years later, the roughly 2,000-pound cow is still one of NEPA’s most recognizable and wonderfully strange roadside landmarks.
