Ptlm. Olshefski and K-9 Tenshi are attending a 3-day tactical tracking seminar in western PA sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., the same non-profit organization that generously supplied Tenshi’s bullet proof vest.

It is through partnerships with multiple non-profit organizations that allows all of our K-9’s to receive the best training, equipment, and care.

Congratulations to Sgt. Homza and K-9 Emma who successfully passed the National Odor Recognition Test administered by the ATF. Less than 600 teams across the Nation will receive certification this year. This once again demonstrates their dedication to the safety of the community and the pursuit of excellence in the K-9 industry.

🐾 K9 Ryan has received his K9 Advanced Trauma Kit! 🐾

This one is especially meaningful to us.

K9 Ryan was named in honor of Ryan Allen of the Hatboro Police Department, a K9 handler who sadly passed away in 2022. Ryan’s mother generously sponsored K9 Ryan’s Trauma Kit, making this donation a beautiful way to continue honoring her son’s service and his connection to the K9 community. 💙

K9 Ryan was donated to the Penn Vet Working Dog Center in Philadelphia by Integrity K9 in Connecticut and has been working with the Wilkes-Barre Police K-9 Unit since mid-May.

In that short time, Ryan has already completed 22 narcotics-search deployments, with 21 resulting in arrests, and has assisted multiple surrounding agencies with drug-related investigations.

At the end of August, Ryan will return to the Penn Vet Working Dog Center to continue his training and work toward certification in patrol duties.

We are incredibly grateful to Ryan Allen’s (Karen Keating Allen) Mom for sponsoring this lifesaving kit in her son’s memory. There is something very special about seeing K9 Ryan carry Ryan Allen’s name forward while serving and protecting another community.

Protection4Paws is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing lifesaving equipment to working K9s nationwide through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and fundraising efforts.

We are proud to announce the graduation and certification of TWO Wilkes-Barre City Police Department K-9 Teams!

First, the newest members of the Unit, Ptlm. Derenick and K-9 Ryan. They are a certified narcotics detection team and will be completing patrol school in the fall. K-9 Ryan is named after the late Officer Ryan Allen, a K-9 handler from Hatboro P.D. who tragically lost his life far too young. Ryan was a dear friend to Sgt. Homza and the entire Penn Vet Working Dog Center community. We are proud to honor his legacy with his namesake

Next, Sgt. Homza and K-9 Emma have completed their training as a certified dual purpose explosives detection team.

We are excited to see all the good work these teams will do. 💪🏼🐾
