UPDATED NOTICE REGARDING LITTLE TIGERS FOOTBALL PARKING
The Wiconisco Fire Company is pleased to announce that, following continued discussions and several revisions to the proposed parking agreement, the Fire Company and the Lykens Little Tigers Association have reached an agreement regarding spectator parking for the 2026 football season.
Our previous notice stating that Fire Company property would not be available for general spectator parking is therefore withdrawn and is no longer in effect.
The negotiations required both organizations to carefully consider their respective responsibilities. The Fire Company needed to protect its property, equipment, buildings, and emergency-access routes while remaining available to respond to emergencies. The Little Tigers sought reasonable and predictable terms that would allow spectators to use the property for overflow parking during home football games.
We would also like to provide some background regarding the cost of the agreement.
The number of events held at our social hall has increased approximately tenfold over the past five years, with approximately 70 events scheduled this year. Four large weddings are scheduled on the same dates as Little Tigers football games.
Because two separate events will be taking place at the same time on those dates, Fire Company members will be needed to direct parking and help prevent conflicts between wedding guests and football spectators.
Our members already volunteer a significant amount of their time to the Fire Company and the community. We did not believe it would be reasonable to ask them to assume these additional parking responsibilities without offering some monetary compensation for their time.
There have also been parking concerns in the past. Given the substantial increase in events at the social hall this year, a clear parking plan was needed to identify the approved parking area, keep emergency-access routes open, and allow both events to take place with as little disruption as possible. The cost of the agreement helps cover the attendants and resources necessary to carry out that plan.
Both organizations raised legitimate concerns and continued working through them in good faith. The final agreement reflects compromise by both parties and establishes a clear division of responsibility for parking operations, property maintenance, insurance, safety, weather cancellations, property damage, and other matters associated with the use of the property.
Little Tigers spectators will be permitted to park in the designated area on Fire Company property during the approved game dates and times.
Anyone using the property must follow the directions of the parking attendants, observe all signs and barriers, remain within the designated parking area, and keep Fire Company entrances, fire lanes, and emergency-access routes clear at all times.
We recognize that the negotiation process took time and generated questions within the community. Both organizations continued communicating because they shared the goal of reaching a fair and responsible arrangement that would support the Little Tigers while protecting the Fire Company’s ability to serve the community and meet its existing event commitments.
We appreciate the willingness of the Lykens Little Tigers Association to continue working through the concerns. We also appreciate the patience and understanding shown by Little Tigers families, Fire Company members, and the community while the details were being resolved.
The Wiconisco Fire Company wishes the Little Tigers players, coaches, families, and volunteers a safe and successful 2026 football season.
Thank you for your cooperation.
