The Behavioral Health and First Responders Job Fair is for anyone interested in careers that focus on helping people and serving the community — whether that’s in law enforcement, fire/EMS, hospitals, crisis services, peer support, case management, or behavioral health.

There will be opportunities to meet employers, ask questions, learn about training and certifications, and make connections with professionals already working in these fields. We’ll also have resume help, professional headshots, and emergency vehicle displays during the event.

Whether you’re just starting out, thinking about a career change, or simply exploring what opportunities are out there, we’d love to have you stop by.

Today we received a visit from the staff of UH Lake West. Part of the visit included a tour of the station where we invited some of our guests to try on our turnout gear.

Let me introduce you to Alex Crow. Alex is the son of Kevin Crow, a part time Wickliffe firefighter. Today, Alex won his scouting pine wood derby competition held at the Willowick Community Center.

If you look close, you can see the championship design. It's a replica of our FD staff vehicle 1521. Alex asked his dad to bring him in for a photo next to the truck that inspired him.

That he won with this particular design is no coincidence. Congratulations Alex. And congratulations to dad as well.

I took a call at the station this afternoon from a person who advised they had received fundraising information via the mail looking to support firefighters.

Please know the ONLY fundraiser where the Wickliffe Fire Department solicits public donations is our annual Fill The Boot-MDA-Muscular Dystrophy event. That's done around Labor Day and in person, not by mail or phone.

While I cannot say that the mail received by this caller is fraudulent, I can say with absolute certainty that the above received had nothing to do with our Fire Department.

I will add that in a time when scammers frequently target people via the phone, mail, or internet, my BEST advice is to be wary. When in doubt, be suspicious. Hang up, discard, delete or investigate further.
