And yet another classic that is a favorite of mine: The Scarlet Pimpernel

Amazon blurb:

The Scarlet Pimpernel

by Baroness Orczy (Author)

Amazon blurb:

"A timeless novel of adventure, intrigue, and romance is sparked by one man's defiance in the face of authority...

The year is 1792. The French Revolution, driven to excess by its own triumph, has turned into a reign of terror. Daily, tumbrels bearing new victims to the guillotine roll over the cobbled streets of Paris.… Thus the stage is set for one of the most enthralling novels of historical adventure ever written.

The mysterious figure known as the Scarlet Pimpernel, sworn to rescue helpless men, women, and children from their doom; his implacable foe, the French agent Chauvelin, relentlessly hunting him down; and lovely Marguerite Blakeney, a beautiful French exile married to an English lord and caught in a terrible conflict of loyalties—all play their parts in a suspenseful tale that ranges from the squalid slums of Paris to the aristocratic salons of London, from intrigue on a great English country estate to the final denouement on the cliffs of the French coast.

There have been many imitations of The Scarlet Pimpernel, but none has ever equaled its superb sense of color and drama and its irresistible gift of wonderfully romantic escape."

Another great classic:

White Fang Paperback

by Jack London (Author)

Amazon blurb:

"White Fang, published in 1906, is an adventure novel by Jack London set in the Yukon territory in Canada during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush. It follows the story of a wolf-dog hybrid, White Fang, as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery. After his mother is killed by a group of Native Americans, White Fang is adopted by a man named Grey Beaver, who teaches him the way of the wild and introduces him to the harsh realities of life. White Fang is then sold to a cruel and abusive owner, but eventually escapes and is taken in by a kind-hearted Gold Rush prospector named Bill. White Fang learns the value of friendship and loyalty from his new master, and develops a strong bond with the humans he meets along the way. Through his adventures and challenges, White Fang learns important lessons about life, love, and survival.

Jack London (1876-1916) is one of the most renowned adventure and fiction authors in history, known for works such as The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea Wolf. He was born John Griffith Chaney on January 12, 1876 in San Francisco, California. London was the illegitimate son of astrologer William Chaney and Flora Wellman, a spiritualist and journalist. His mother married John London shortly after Jack's birth, and the family moved to Oakland, California. London's writing career began at the age of 17, when he worked as a reporter for the Oakland Herald. He then left school and began working aboard a sealing schooner, an adventure he later wrote about in The Sea Wolf. Later, he joined the Klondike Gold Rush and had a variety of experiences which he wrote about in his stories and novels. In 1900, London published his first novel, The Son of the Wolf. This was followed by a series of highly successful novels and stories, such as The Call of the Wild and White Fang. His works often featured themes of nature, adventure, and survival against extreme odds. London was also a socialist, and many of his works reflect his views on politics, social justice, and the environment. Jack London died of a kidney ailment on November 22, 1916 in Glen Ellen, California. He is remembered as one of the greatest authors of his time and his works continue to be widely read today."

To Kill a Mockingbird

by Harper Lee (Author)

Amazon blurb:

"Harper Lee’s beloved Pultizer Prize–winning classic, now in new hardcover edition in anticipation of her forthcoming second novel, Go Set a Watchman "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird." A lawyer’s advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee’s classic novel—a black man charged with the r**e of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unswerving honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina and quiet heroism of one man’s struggle for justice—but the weight of history will only tolerate so much. One of the best-loved classics of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has earned many distinctions since its original publication in 1960. It has won the Pulitzer Prize, been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, and been made into an enormously popular movie. It was also named the best novel of the twentieth century by librarians across the country (Library Journal)."

The Aviator's Wife: A Novel

by Melanie Benjamin (Author)

:In the spirit of Loving Frank and The Paris Wife, acclaimed novelist Melanie Benjamin pulls back the curtain on the marriage of one of America’s most extraordinary couples: Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

“The history [is] exhilarating. . . . The Aviator’s Wife soars.”—USA Today

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

When Anne Morrow, a shy college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family, she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong. Charles sees in Anne a kindred spirit, a fellow adventurer, and her world will be changed forever. The two marry in a headline-making wedding. In the years that follow, Anne becomes the first licensed female glider pilot in the United States. But despite this and other major achievements, she is viewed merely as the aviator’s wife. The fairy-tale life she once longed for will bring heartbreak and hardships, ultimately pushing her to reconcile her need for love and her desire for independence, and to embrace, at last, life’s infinite possibilities for change and happiness."

Book 1 of 3: The Glass Scientists

Amazon blurb:

"The gothic worlds of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, and more collide in this graphic novel series about buried secrets, mad science, and misunderstood monsters. For fans of stylish reimaginings like Lore Olympus and gaslamp fantasies like The Night Circus!

London isn’t the safest place for mad scientists these days. After that whole ordeal with Frankenstein, angry mobs have gotten awfully good at hunting down monsters and wiping out anything they don’t understand. In fact, if it weren’t for one extraordinary young man, every out-of-the-box thinker would have been locked up . . . or worse.

That young man is none other than Dr. Henry Jekyll. He believes mad scientists would thrive if they could just fix their public image, which is why he founded the Society for Arcane Sciences, a place where like-minded eccentrics could come together to defy the laws of nature in peace.

But everything changes when a mysterious stranger arrives, bent on taking the Society in a radical new direction. With everyone turning against him, Jekyll’s life starts to spiral out of control, shattering all his carefully laid plans and threatening to expose his darkest secret—one that could destroy everything he has built from the inside out.

Volume One collects Chapters 1-7 of this thrilling, humorous, beloved webcomic, which is available in print for the first time ever. It also features a brand-new side story, a behind-the-scenes look at artwork, and more exclusive bonus content!"
