Did you know our firefighters work 48-hour shifts? That means every two days a new crew arrives and immediately begins a full apparatus check-off to ensure everything is ready to go.
For our first-due engine alone, there are 196 items that must be checked. Add 58 items in the paramedic drug box and another 167 pieces of medical equipment that are inspected and verified — all at the beginning of every shift.
Before the first call ever comes in, hundreds of checks have already been completed. It’s all part of our commitment to being ready, prepared, and proud to serve our community. 🚒

We’re excited to celebrate the 77th Annual Gold Rush Days next week, just like we did back in 1973. While our trucks and gear may have changed over the years, our love for this community tradition hasn’t changed one bit. Here’s to honoring the past and celebrating the present!

🚪❤️ Close Before You Doze ❤️🚪

Closing bedroom doors at night can reduce smoke exposure, limit heat, and slow the spread of fire.

Our friends at UL Research Institute created a short 5-minute video showing the dramatic difference between a closed door and an open door during a fire. Protect your family while they sleep with a simple step that can save lives.

In a house fire, are you safer sleeping with your bedroom doors open or closed? See the dramatic, life-saving difference a door can make. ...

With the forecast showing chances of heavy rain this weekend we want to share some safety tips from our friends at the National Weather Service:

• Road beds may be washed out under flood waters. NEVER drive through flooded roadways - you do not know the condition of the road under the water.

• Do not camp or park your vehicle along streams and washes, particularly during threatening conditions.

• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.

• Do not walk through moving water. Six inches of moving water can make you fall. If you have to walk in water, walk where the water is not moving. Use a stick to check the firmness of the ground in front of you.

• Play it smart, play it safe. Whether driving or walking, any time you come to a flooded road, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!
