This morning our students taking a pause in honor of Patriots Day and the 25th anniversary of 9-11.
Our own students helped design the Freedom Flag for Kansas last year and it is the same flag flying today.
In remembrance of the events that happened on September 11th, 2001, 25 years ago today, we are raising the Freedom Flag as a symbol of remembrance.
The blue background represents all Americans, united together for freedom.
The white star symbolizes all those who lived and died for freedom.
The five white bars represent the Pentagon and the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard who daily protect our freedom.
The top red stripe is for remembrance of those who perished at the Pentagon and the crew and passengers onboard American Airlines Flight 77.
The two broad red stripes symbolize the Twin Towers that fell in New York City and for the people who perished at the World Trade Center and on American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175.
The bottom red stripe represents the loss of the crew and passengers onboard United Airlines Flight 93 that went down in Pennsylvania.
The three white stripes represent those heroes who ran toward personal danger on 9/11 in order to help others, the rescue workers, firefighters, police officers, Port Authority employees, and others who worked tirelessly during and after the terrorist attacks.
